what the FUCK???
Wow. these past two days have been a rapid drop back to reality.

Stupid
If they were going to bring up a AAA pitcher to start Monday, they should have had Albers pitch the 8th inning tonight. Instead they brought out Safarte, who obviously was having control issues tonight, based on his performance in the 7th.
Also, they should be sending Aquino down, not Scott Moore.

I agree that if Albers doesn't pitch Monday
That they should've brought him out instead of Sarfate, but no one has said that Johnson is going to get the go ahead. Trembley just said that he would keep his options open.

Either way
Trembly needed to be thinking about winning this game, not worrying about who starts on Monday when there are multiple options on the table.
Normally I'm a big Trembly fan.... not tonight.

What the hell?
what possible point does this serve? Let Albers rest all weekend and start him.

Let me get this straight...
...they optioned Scott Moore and kept Greg Aquino?
by Jonny Pops on Apr 11, 2008 11:27 PM EDT 0 recs
They sure did.
And Moore can't come back for 10 days. The hell?

yeah. Jim Johnson.
who is not a position player. not much of a pitcher, either really. What I wanna know is...during these 10 days, what the heck do the Os do for the role Moore is playing right now? And what exactly has that guy NOT done, since coming here, to prove he needs a shot at sticking on the big club. I know he's no star or anything, but he's a useful player.

Maybe they want to make sure he's getting enough At Bats?
His playing time has been kinda sparse. We're going to need him to be in good form later in the season after we start trading dudes. Playing everyday in AAA is likely to be better for his development than an occasional pinch hit in The Show.

MF please
His development is done. This is who he is.
AAA is for fringe players, old farts that can't hack it but want to play, and pitchers that are borderline.

Oh, I'm not saying I agree with the above argument
I'm just thinking that maybe thats what what the Orioles are thinking.

JJ can suck my left nut
Seriously, this most fucking stupid thing ever. I fucking hate the way Trembley manages the BP.

Nah...
lifting Jeremy Guthrie with a 5 run lead and 1 out in the 9th on Mother's Day last year? THAT was the stupidest thing ever.

deep breaths
We're in for plenty more of this.
I recall a story from spring training where some woman yelled out her thanks to AM for trying to actually fix the club. His response, later to the press, was I hope she's hanging in there come July.

Fahey
We are left with that incompetent stupid ass for our bench player. He can't hit. He, supposively, is able to play shortstop. Seriously, why wasn't he sent down? Moore has, at least, done something offensively for this team. Fahey has done nothing. He is 0 for 8 this season. Trembley will definitely have to explain this to the media because I can't see keeping Fahey for any reason on the major league roster. Hell, I'd take a rusty Alex Cintron instead of this fool.
If Johnson gets the start on monday, then it is obvious that Diamond Dave had zero clue what he was doing last night. Albers should've pitched the 8th. Actually, even if Albers was going to pitch monday, it's no more than a side session he would've thrown anyway so he should've pitched the 8th regardless.
The past 2 days have put a lot of bad taste in my mouth which is fine if it was the team failing, but it is squarely on the coaching staff now.

I'm curious
Ignore that Fahey and Hernandez are the same player, or that Aquino probably doesn't belong. And Quiznos will hang around because the O's need a backup catcher.
What exactly has Johnson done to illustrate he can start? Or is this one of many experiments we'll see during the year? I'd really like to hear the O's reasoning.
by drj on Apr 12, 2008 10:11 AM EDT 0 recs
I'll hazard a guess
But first, Hernandez is better than Fahey. Which is not any praise for Hernandez.
Jim Johnson is getting the spot start because he'll be ready to pitch on Monday and because he's not someone they're concerned about disrupting. And that's why no one from the FO will be giving you any reasoning.

And it's important to keep Fahey's versatility on the bench
That beats out the possibility of having a bat on the bench. Or Aquino back in the minors.

my guess
"Jim Johnson is getting the spot start because he'll be ready to pitch on Monday and because he's not someone they're concerned about disrupting."
Roch said Monday is Olson's turn in the rotation. He just came off a great start. He's the most logical candidate based on merit. Here's my guess for why JJ was picked. Dave has been making rumblings about using a 13 man staff. JJ can make a spot and then move to the O's BP. They view Olson more as a reliever thus taking him off a rotation schedule isn't important. With Olson, they would rather keep him on a rotation schedule rather than move to the O"s BP after a spot start.

I thought about that, too

no big deal
And I'm a fan of Moore. (If I had my way Mora would've been traded and Moore would be playing every day at third). But, Mora ain't getting traded and if DT won't play Moore consistently (too early to tell really), then no use in just wearing a warm up jacket all night.
As far as JJ Johnson, meh. But whatever. Johnson will be demoted soon enough when we get the rotation straightened out. Stupid weather. Seriously, it rains in Texas? I never woulda guessed...
