MASN press release:
MASN Wins 11 Local, 4 Regional ADDY Awards
“Honeybear” and “Drop and Drive” win prestigious “Best in Show: Broadcast” award
Four Regional awards came in competition with the best agency work from Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York
(BALTIMORE) -- MASN won eleven local ADDY awards, including the prestigious “Best in Show: Broadcast,” for its innovative television advertising and show opens. The network also won four regional ADDY awards, competing with the best work from Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and New York. The spots will now automatically be entered in the national competition.
The ads used humor to communicate MASN’s unique ability to give fans unmatched access to their favorite teams and players, and to literally “be there” on the field.
The “Honeybear” spot featuring Nick Markakis won three local gold trophies, in the categories of National TV, TV Self-Promotion, and the prestigious Best of Show: Broadcast. Additionally, the Honeybear spot won two regional ADDY gold awards.
The “Drop & Drive” ad featuring Orioles pitcher Adam Loewen won a regional silver ADDY, as well as the local gold ADDY award in the categories TV Self-Promotion and the Best in Show: Broadcast, which it shared with “Honeybear.”
The network, which was the only Regional Sports Network to win at the competition, took an entire slate of awards for player match-up ads. The spots featured Ryan Zimmerman, Chad Cordero, Jon Rauch, Miguel Tejada, Brian Roberts and Corey Patterson. The series took local silver ADDYs for TV, Self Promotion/Campaign, and National TV, Media. MASN also won awards for its cutting edge video work, including its NCAA lacrosse open, Orioles game opens and Oriole player spot promos. These opens, produced by Shooters, Inc. of Philadelphia, took home a gold and silver ADDY award in Special Effects, Video or Film. The match-up spots won a silver ADDY award in sound design.“This is a tremendous honor for the network and our agency partners. At the end of the day, these ads communicate the essence of MASN’s value proposition – to offer fans unmatched access to their favorite teams and players. It is gratifying to know they are not only effective, but also critically-acclaimed,” said MASN spokesman Todd Webster.
MASN’s award-winning advertising featuring the player matchup spots were developed and written by creative director Dick Goggin. The spots were produced by Shooters, Inc.
The “Honeybear” and “Drop & Drive” spots were created with the inspiration and talent of The Martin Agency and edited by Shooters, Inc.
The 34th Annual Baltimore ADDY Awards were announced Thursday, April 10, at the Brown Center at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Known as the world’s largest advertising competition, the local ADDY awards are the first of a three-step process, culminating in the National ADDY competition.
“We congratulate all of the winners of this years ADDY’s and salute the Advertising Association of Baltimore, its Chairman, Reid Miller and President, Stephen Rogers, and its board of directors for acknowledging and encouraging the best in local advertising,” Webster continued.
The American Advertising Federation, a not-for-profit industry association, conducts the ADDY Awards through its 200 member advertising clubs and 15 districts. It is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry. Judging for the competition was undertaken by a seven-member panel of advertising and marketing experts from outside the Baltimore region.

I totally loved those ads
Yeah, they were self-referential, but that Drop & Drive ad was awesome. Because we all have a pitching coach inside of us when we watch the O's, don't we?

"Dude, I got it."
LOVE. Love that commercial so much. Still say it when Nick’s up.
"Yeah, I mean - Cal was much more important to me growing up than Jesus. And frankly, set just as good an example. Loyalty, discipline, hard work, humility, generosity, charity, AND 3,184 career hits. Is JESUS in the 3,000 hit club? I don't think so." - 2632
