Jarrod Washburn - LH 4 24.0 4.13 1.25 .304 2 13 1-3

From Yahoo! Sports:

The Mariners could have had a good shot at ending their struggles against the Orioles with ace Erik Bedard eligible to come off the disabled list for this game against his former team. However, the left-hander’s return is being pushed back in order to give him another throwing session in the bullpen.

He is scheduled to start Saturday against Oakland.

In his place, the Mariners will turn to Jarrod Washburn (1-3, 4.13 ERA), who’s hoping to avoid losing his third straight start. After falling to Kansas City on April 14, he gave up season highs of four runs and 10 hits in six innings of a 4-1 defeat against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.

Washburn is 6-4 with a 4.52 ERA in 13 career games—12 starts—against the Orioles. Markakis is 1-for-9 with five strikeouts against the left-hander.

Washburn will face Baltimore left-hander Adam Loewen (0-1, 6.32), who’s coming off his first loss of the year. Loewen gave up three runs and six hits while walking five in the 3-1 defeat against the Chicago White Sox last Wednesday.

He was originally scheduled to start Tuesday, but the team gave him some additional time off to work on his command.

Seriously

What is the deal with Bedard? Since when have the Orioles become so frightening? Furthermore, I thought the trade was handled pretty well on the Orioles’ part.

Jesus H Godblasted Christ

Thorne and Palmer were just saying that Trembley says “Adam Loewen is the reason we’re carrying 13 pitchers.” Is he? Then get him the fuck out of the starting rotation, and get Olson or Liz in there. The “logic” there isn’t. It’s nonsense.

Seriously though

I get pulling a pitcher early when he’s completely lost command or is giving up HR after HR. But 4 hits? Why waste free pitches out of that arm?

He retired over half the batters he faced. He’d get out of the inning eventually, who cares if it’s 5-0 or 7-0 or 9-0? Make him go 4 innings.

well that's the real conundrum, isn't it

I also think Loewen has some promise, maybe. But we can’t send him down and he’d be an absolute disaster in the bullpen, more than likely. so what CAN we do? I think you have to stick him in the pen, hold your nose, and hope for the best.

guthrie went v. deep. so did big daniel.

this is my point.

Yeah but Guts still should’ve been taken out at Ibanez. What’s your point, exactly? Cabrera threw 95 pitches. Shit, he probably could’ve finished it the way he was going.

by SC on Apr 24, 2008 11:50 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

my point, exactly

is that trembley has done a good job w/ the pitching staff so far.

by thewaywardO on Apr 24, 2008 11:55 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it was a 1/3, 2/3 of inning dude.

it wouldn’t have taxed the BP to take out Guts at that point.

7th inning

The last like 5 games O’s starters have made it into the 7th inning so we can use a few extra pitcher tonight.

so who is dave going to use in the 6th? Aquino, followed Bradford, Walker

and then maybe Millar could throw an inning if we’re still down.

Loewen needs some work

Looks like Loewen did it again. It seems like he can’t have just one quality start. Giving up a first inning homer to slumping Adrian Beltre doesn’t look good at all

Hopefully the birds can keep this scoring pace up of one run an inning and soon it will be a new ball game.

Roberts Mora and Markakis are due up which can only mean that best possibility of tieing this sucker up

O something else i noticed which isn’t news but the O’s needed someone like Frank Thomas but too late there is always Barry Bonds which is all but no hope at all for that one.

O really, you think your funny well Fukudome!!!

by Lets GO O's on Apr 25, 2008 12:06 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

the O's are missing hitters are the following positions

Shortstop
First Base
Catcher
Third Base
Center Field (sry, Adm)
DH

Frank Thomas and/or Barry Bonds do not lead this team into contention. They are God awful lucky to be 12-9.
