When he was removed from the game, (Adam) Loewen complained of forearm discomfort in his pitching arm that he claims is unrelated to the stress fracture in his elbow that required surgery last June. He's expected to return to Baltimore today to see team doctors.

"It's starting to get worse in the general area of my forearm," said Loewen, visibly distraught as he spoke to reporters. "It just starts off as a dull pain and gets sharper as I get on. I'll probably get it looked at. Hopefully, it's nothing serious, I don't think it is."

I guess when Loewen goes on the DL we’ll be back to 12 pitchers at least. I am seriously totally over this kid.

I am not impressed with what are basically rookie pitchers trying to come back from an injury attempting to play through pain. That is so not Birdland.

We’re over-achieving right now, Adam.
We don’t need you to go out trying to play hero with your whole career ahead of you.

Wait...

“We don’t need you to go out trying to play hero with your whole career ahead of you.

Fixed that for you.

I'm not sure this is a bad thing

I’m actually surprised by how little this bothers me. Maybe it’s just that my expectations for Loewen are so low at this point.

We already know Loewen is injury prone, so it’s not like this changes his long term picture. Maybe it’s a minor injury, or maybe he’ll need TJ, but it does provide an explanation for his troubles so far this year (besides “he stinks”).

It gives the Orioles the opportunity to take it slower with Loewen and give him some minor league rehab starts.

Loewen goes to the DL, which opens up a spot in the rotation for Olson or Albers.

Maybe we can trade him to Seattle

They give good returns for injured Canadian pitchers.

maybe they’ll hook us with Ichiro. Afterall, the guy can hit HR’s at will.

Cut him some slack

It is dumb to pitch hurt. But i understand why he would pitch hurt:

The dude just came back from surgery, so he was antsy to keep pitching and redeem himself. Also, its forearm troubles, not the same level of concern as when a pitcher has a pain in his elbow or shoulder. Yes it was dumb not to tell the trainer right away, and i dont condone his behavior, but i understand it.

To be overly optimistic now:

What if this is why he has struggled more than normal so far? Also now we can give him a rehab stint in the minor leagues, so everybody here gets their wishes and Adam will get to rebuild confidence down there.

I think

we’re all on board with ANY move for ANY reason that involves Loewen going to Norfolk sooner rather than later.

wait...

i thought forearm pain was indicative of an injiry that requires a TJ?

you may be right

I just assumed that elbow pains would be the sign of needing TJ.

Forearm pain = Nerve problem

if a pitcher complains about “forearm pain”, it means there’s a nerve problem going on. it doesn’t necessarily mean TJ, but surgery is usually the answer anyway. ask John Patterson.

with the screw in his elbow from the fracture, it’s no doubt he’s now experiencing a nerve problem. i’d be surprised if Loewen ended up with a TJ, unless he’s now damaged the ligaments from the stress of dealing with the screw/fracture.

THIS is Birdland?!?

It would explain his suckiness

He’s really adding to his reputation as a being injury prone. I still like him a lot long term, but it won’t matter if he can’t stay healthy.

Loewen is on the 15 day DL

I guess the doctors saw something.

ANOTHER middle infielder?

Why wasn’t Moore called up?

by Stacey on Apr 25, 2008 1:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

have you SEEN Luis Luis and Lil' Brother play lately?

seriously, though...

maybe one of those guys needs to be sent to norfolk in exchange for an outfielder.

I'd say DFA both

and bring up Moore and Cintron. Does anyone actually believe Luis Luis or Lil’ Brother are ever going to get any better than what they are right now?

nope...

do they have to designate them or can they just option them? i mean, given their collective use, i hardly see how it matters, but i’m curious.

they should send down or release one of them if torres is coming up

There’s no need to carry 3 SS.
