GAMEDAY LINK (MLB)       ACCUSCORE LINK (ESPN)       BOXSCORE LINK (YAHOO!)

I'll let SC or duck pretty this one up, but it's 1pm, and in case they're not around....

It's your FIRST PLACE (by percentage points) Baltimore Orioles against the FIRST PLACE White Sox. Who knew?

St. Guts will take on José Contreras, who owned us last time out, but whom we have generally spanked over his career (5.10 ERA vs the Birds). Guts has not fared well himself against the WS, but when he faced them a couple weeks ago, he threw a QS, and the O's won it in the 10th.

Let's see how few runs we can score for Jeremy today. Gametime is 2:05pm EDT.

In other news, the Redskins drafted 5 more wide receivers today and also signed Michael Irvin out of retirement.

(UPDATE from duck @ 1:19)  I will post lineups when available. Here's some notes from MLB.com's Press Pass for the Orioles :

STAY UP LATE: 11 of the Orioles’ games this season, including three of their last four, have been decided in the 7th inning or later…The Birds are 7-4 in those contests.
ONE-RUN GAMES: The Orioles lost, 5-6, in Game 2 last night but are 7-2 in one-run games in 2008 after going 13-31 in such games last season.
COMEBACK KIDS: The Orioles overcame an 0-5 deficit to win, 8-7, on Thursday night and have rallied from a deficit to win in nine of their 14 victories this season…The Birds won games on back-to-back nights vs. Seattle last week on a solo home runs in the 8th inning – by Nick Markakis on Wednesday and Brian Roberts on Thursday.
SUPER SIX: Baltimore scored runs in the 6th inning of both games of the DH yesterday…The Birds have outscored opponents, 25-7 in the 6th inning this season, their most runs in any inning in’08...They have scored 14 runs in the 8th inning, their 2nd-highest total.
MAKING THINGS HAPPEN: OF Nick Markakis has reached base safely in 22 of 23 games this season, including each of the last 20.

If you've never seen the Press Pass notes from MLB, do yourself a favor and check them out. They're usually posted a few hours before each game, and it's the same material the clubs distribute to the journalists covering the game.

I die a little inside

every time I see Brandon Fahey’s name in the lineup.

wow.. courtesy of drj's CBS mlb stats link...

Orioles have the fewest GIDPs in the AL. 14.

Now that’s either because we’re realllllly good, or because we can’t get enough guys on base for something like that to happen.

Or because the majority of our outs involve strike-em-out-throw-em-outs?

what a waste of an out..

I mean… wow….

And it’s not like Brian Roberts is a slow fellow either.. he could have stolen if you were desperate for the guy on 2nd… and even if you don’t want to do that, he’s probably fast enough to avoid the GIDP if you set up a hit and run…

it really was

There’s been two horrible bunt calls in the past two days. I don’t mind the bunt in the right situation, but that wasn’t it.

Huff over Millar eh..

You think Millar drew Trembley’s ire over his stupid at bat last night?

What a way to teach the team a lesson. He replaces him with Huff.

Hernandez sportin the dot-one-eight-eight

Glad he came to camp early. Imagine how bad he’d be hitting if he didn’t do that.

I was watching the gameday video highlights

And I honestly think I would kill myself if I had to listen to those White Sox announcers every game

by wscott on Apr 27, 2008 2:48 PM EDT   0 recs

did you see the jay payton catch on the fly out to left field?

Hawk kept saying “STRETCH! STRETCH! STRETCH! STRETCH! STRETCH! STRETCH!” as the ball was flying out there…

45 pitches in 2 innings..

chicago did a nice job of working the count.

can’t wait for our guys to go up there and ground out on the first pitch.

by Y Not on Apr 27, 2008 2:48 PM EDT   0 recs

Figures

Fahey hits the ball harder than he ever has in his life, and it’s straight into the pitcher’s glove.

by dkdc on Apr 27, 2008 2:52 PM EDT   0 recs

Why the fuck is Fahey on this team?

Like seriously—he is not good at anything.

It was such a mismatch that everybody in the park

really, really wanted the Soviets to score a run—for peace, friendship and all that good stuff. They didn’t get a guy past second. I think it was 9-0 or 11-0, and there was no mercy rule.

They had good athletes (it was an Olympic sport, so they wanted to be competitive) and their pitcher was not that bad (a former javelin thrower) but they lacked just what you’d expect: fine points (hit the cut-off man, back up bases, CF calls off other OFs, etc.) and a feel for the team aspect of the game. But hey, they were learning. I think I remember that they scored a run later off Navy.

Swisher is a tool.

fancy hairstyles, elaborate heavenward gestures for every little thing, over-groomed stubble, overcaffienated batting posture etc.. I got to see a lot of him when he was in Oakland. His act gets old fast.

Yep.

He donated his hair and got a couple of others to do it. It was a nice thing for the pretty-boy tool to do.

He is a saint.

He’s still a pretty boy saint who is hyper-focused on his hair. Watch him for a season and let me know if you don’t start making that sticking-finger-down-the-throat gesture when he takes an at bat.
