On Saturday, the Orioles didn't push Jim Johnson further than 2 1/3 innings and held Triple-A Norfolk pitcher Garrett Olson to 45 pitches to keep both in line to potentially start Tuesday and Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Yippee. I'm psyched to see Olson up in the bigs.

Per orioles.com

Garrett Olson on Tuesday
Jim Johnson on Wednesday

I don’t know if that makes it official, but I’m going to consider it such.

Interesting

I assume that Olson will be the guy who gets multiple starts while Loewen is on the DL. Johnson is probably one-and-done.

I’m surprised Albers isn’t getting a start, but I guess they figure that he’ll be needed to mop-up either Olson or Johnson.

If Albers is needed for a few innings on Tuesday, they may call Jon Leicester up for a few days.

Torres, Fahey, and Aquino should all have their stuff packed and ready to go.

Consider me a drinker of Olson brand Kool-Aid.

I saw his last start for Norfok before his first call up last season – 10 Ks against the PawSox. It was awesome.

And in a bit of trivia, that was the same night Aubrey Huff hit for the cycle.

"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."

I am still on the fence about Olson

Sure his numbers this year in AAA are brilliant, but he was downright awful last year.

But so was JJ, so we’ll see.

Why dont we

Trash the trash man and just give permanent starts to these two and albers?

Maybe move the trash man to mop-up duty, he could do that pretty well, and make a irrelevant game painfully long.

Olson

I think he just choked last year. Hopefully, he won’t be as nervous this time around. He can’t be worse than Loewen…
