Hey kids, can I play?

Hey people. I'm Kristen. 2632 mentions me a lot. Sometimes she posts pictures of my rack to inspire players. Sometimes she sings "Orioles Magic" to my cat for the same reason. Hey, whatever works, right?

I'm a Sox fan but the awesome kind, I swear. Yes, we all say that and no, we don't all know what "the awesome kind" is. But I promise not to shit talk the Os, pontificate about the awesomeness of all things Sox or demand that you all genuflect to the alter of Big Papi. That's not how I roll, yo. I'm a baseball fan and I've come to have strong affection for the Os. (And am possibly a glutton for punishment). Also, trust me, y'all can't hate the bandwagon fans more than I do. It's not possible.

Also, Zachary can vouch for me since we drank together in a bar in Soho and beer breeds friends.

So, anyway, can I play?

Kristen is, amongst other things, my best friend.

And for some Goddamned reason, she roots for the Orioles 141 games a year.
Chanumas, you also have met Kristen - and RobG, if you're still around.

In related news, Kristen rocks a Markakis shirt and has defended Cal Ripken's legacy to strangers in bars.

And she's pretty.

"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."

I call for acceptance

I thought you were the subcommittee, anyway.

So welcome Kristin.

It now seems like we have a 2:1 ratio of cool:non-cool RS fans.

I was joking about the subcommittee anyway, my goal was not to be the Camden Chat asshole.

No, I'm just the secretary

And yeah, I've retired that joke.

Hi Kristen

Welcome!

We have a couple other Red Sox fans who post here on occassion. One is cool, the other, well, not so much.

Formerly known as Javylicious.

2632 does not lie.

I got all shouty on my sports editor (whom I had not previously met) in a bar a week or so ago for saying something mean about Cal. It wasn't pretty, yo.

"Yeah, I mean - Cal was much more important to me growing up than Jesus. And frankly, set just as good an example. Loyalty, discipline, hard work, humility, generosity, charity, AND 3,184 career hits. Is JESUS in the 3,000 hit club? I don't think so." - 2632

Living in Boston for 3 years...

I have met just one or two "awesome" fans -- the rest are smug assholes. Thank god I am out of this shithole in August.

I'll take your word for your awesomeness though -- I mean you have to be if you like the O's as well.

Well, like I said...

...I'm a baseball fan. I can appreciate baseball, regardless of the uniform.

I might object to you calling Boston a shithole though, 'cause the city is totally my boyfriend.

Welcome, Kristen!

I can vouch for ya, as we met last year at Get-soaked-in-hideous-baltimore-humidity-and-watch-Daniel-Cabrera-get-shelled-by-the-yanks Day at Camden Yards.

You seemed quite cool, even if i can't seem to get my head around the fact that a sox fan would be so optimistic about the O's outside of Bizarro World.

Awww, I alreay have a nickname.

Sweet. And better than "elitist bitch" which is what 2632 usually calls me.

Special K

I had a friend named Katie, and I wanted to name her Special K as her nickname but she didn't want any part of it. She didnt want a nickname that uses a word that is typically reserved for mentally challenged kids. I thought she was over reacting but whatever. It sounded cool which is about the only criteria I use for nicknames.

Wolf, wolf, wolf.

by birdman on Apr 3, 2008 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ha!

Growing up we nicknamed everyone and everything. The best names were names for our friends parents. Larry and Karen became LarShane and Special K. Big Perm and A.Dubsac (A.W.) were also favorites of mine.

Yessssss!

I feel like that warrants a Derek Jeter fist-pump or a Derek Lowe "bite my tweeter" motion.

Except, you know, less lame and possibly by someone not named "Derek."

Derek Lowe's suck it was classic

And Tejada cried.

Speaking of Tejada, has anyone seen him play for the 'Stros yet? I was watching their game briefly the other night and there he was, batting. Looking like my shortstop. But he wasn't.

It was like I was looking down on Wayne's basement, only that's not Wayne's basement.

Hi-yo, Kristen!

(1) Any friend of 26's...plus

(2) Many of us happily retain a posted image of your upper torso imprinted cryogenically on the lower left parietal lobe of our brainpans-- so it's not like we *could* forget you, even if we wanted to...plus

(3) Tell me you're as hot for Barack as 26 is and bingo, you immediately jump into third (behind 26 and Javy) on my list of megacoolnetchixxxwhowon'tgooutwithmeever, which is actually OK 'cause I would get killed if you did.

Forget it, Jake. It's Birdland.

I'm totally a Barackstar

But that's like 87% 2632's doing. Although she's gonna get him elected. I'm just gonna drunkenly argue with people in bars about the American political process and demand that we start implementing the "water balloon" defense in debates.

He's the Devil!!!

(Please note, this is a forward I received, not my actual opinion. I plan to vote for Obama in the PA primary and hopefully in November. This is just for the amusement/enrage-ment of 2632 and the other Camden Chat Obamaniacs).

According to The Book of Revelations the anti-christ is:

The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything. Is it OBAMA??

I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to repost this as many times as you can! Each opportunity that you have to send it to a friend or media outlet...do it!

If you think I am crazy..Im sorry but I refuse to take a chance on the "unknown" candidate

Is the end of the world...

only a concern for people who are alive when it happens? Or are people who passed away hundreds of thousands of years ago also supposed to be worried? If they are, does that mean they're resurrected and then killed again?

Slight problem

to those who sent it to you...

Uh, Islam is about 1300 years younger than Christianity.

Not that facts and logic ever persuaded these people...

I think the excessive punctuation really sells it.

And also the random capitalization. Nice work.

I'd say we'd go at least ten rounds.

All right! I had a dream like this...Wait, Westie isn't on this thread, is he?

(1) "Hello, and thanks to all of you for coming out tonight. Let me put it right up front: I *am* the anti-Christ. But given the other choices -- $100 million worth of pathological truth 'n' bullet dodging (that you're supposed to feel *sorry* for?!?) and a 'But Iran *belongs* in the Stone Age' mad bomber -- I am confident that Titov and his ilk are going to vote for me anyway, and in his case again." -- Barack Obama

(2) "Of course, this part of my life isn't extensively covered by the four principal sources, but since you're interested (and you'll find out soon enough anyway), I think it'll be OK upstairs if I share a few stats as a teaser: In a career spanning 20-31 AD in the Judaeo-Israeli League, I had 4,317 hits (at a .431 slugging pct)-- and won three Cy Youngs as Bethlehem's *closer*, for God's sake. But then, I'm God, heh-heh. Anyway, I'm still a major Cal fan, and I can take a joke -- I'm that big-- so go ahead." -- JC

(3) How does that old saw go-- "Never talk politics or religion with your barber or your dentist-- it's not like they're baseball blogs or something." Or am I remembering that wrong...

Forget it, Jake. It's Birdland.
