O's 8, Rangers 1: Burres is Birdland

Happy 27th birthday, Brian Burres.
Our fifth starter gave us a six strong innings today, pulled in the seventh after allowing a leadoff walk, throwing just 81 pitches and allowing one earned (an inherited runner that Matt Albers allowed to score) with three strikeouts and two walks.
Burres was really sharp today, including one ridiculous 74mph curveball that got a clutch bases loaded strikeout. He worked out of a couple of jams, pitched efficiently, and really, really looked good. I'd even say that this was the best an O's starter has looked this season.
This wasn't a come-from-behind win; this was just an ass-kicking. The Birds were up 4-0 after three innings. Scott Moore homered in his first at-bat of the day, a lazy fly ball that carried over the right field wall at The Ballpark, and Brian Roberts drove in Adam Jones in the same inning. In the fourth, Aubrey Huff scored on a two-run homer from Luuuuuuuke Scott, Scott's first jack as an Oriole.
Huff had a killer day, going 4-for-4 with 4 RBI, including a two-run double in the sixth that was originally called a three-run homer. Yellow lines can cram it. (It was a good call.)
Texas' lone run came in the bottom of the seventh, when Ian Kinsler singled off of Albers, bringing David Murphy home. Albers pitched two innings in relief of Burres, striking out four and walking no one, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He gave the ball to Greg Aquino, and even Aquino proved to be worthwhile today, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Scott was 2-for-4 with a walk, Markakis 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored, Luis Luis was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Everything is breaking our way right now. Which is nice because there have been plenty of times in recent years, even with a bad team, where things have just broken way against us.
This team rules. 6-1, y'all!

we shall look back upon this post and remember the good times
in June or so when we're in the basement, getting beat by the Pirates.
that being said...
BIRDLAND. Respect, motherfuckers.
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."

SO YOU'RE WELCOME!
"Yeah, I mean - Cal was much more important to me growing up than Jesus. And frankly, set just as good an example. Loyalty, discipline, hard work, humility, generosity, charity, AND 3,184 career hits. Is JESUS in the 3,000 hit club? I don't think so." - 2632

From Roch
I'd like to think Luis Hernandez isn't looking over his shoulder anymore, no matter what Cintron does. He looks a lot steadier in the field and is making plays as if it's 2007 again. He also hasn't been the automatic out that so many people predicted. He won't win a batting title, but he should hit more than his weight.
He weighs 180 pounds.

Meanwhile, Bedard at the ranch...
Yes, Monsieur Erik picked up win no. 1 for the Seattles (don't you wish they'd gone with Pilots again?) in a relentlessly middling performance that at least makes you think Well, the Best Coffee people aren't going to spend all month suffering buyer's remorse. And E. put on his philosopher's hat for the post-game, too, letting fly with some banalities that make you think he may have watched a French-dubbed version of "Bull Durham" the night before:
"If I go out there and do what I can to help the team win, that’s all you can do," Bedard said. "Every day you go out there and prepare for the game. You win, you win. You lose, you lose."
And you know how he puts his pants on? One leg at a time! Oh, and I think he's just happy to be there.
Meanwhile, it's morning in Moscow (didn't Nappin' Ron say something like that?) and the Orioles remain on track to fulfill my modest expectations: 161-1. Aubrey Huff, a notorious slow starter, has been re-evaluated upward to plain notorious. You like his comment about the team already having more fun this year than they did at any time in '07-- except in his hotel room? OK, he didn't actually say that last part. Bedard did.
And yeah, it's now up to our wily trash-tossin' veteran to Keep Birdland Alive tonight. It's a 4:05 am start (for us), so we'll leave it to youse guys ('n' gals, bless ya) to put up the usual 800 posts [sic] or something and bring this one in. Go O's!
Remember the Birdland!
