O's win big without playing

The Orioles are so rediculously good at the moment that they were able to pick up a 1/2 game on the entire AL East tonight without even taking the field.  Thats right, they all lost tonight and it was a thing of beauty to watch as I had my mlb.com account fired up and was able to bounce between all of the games.   Tomorrow nights double header is huge because if we win at least the first game, than we are at least 3 games up on every team in the division and a win in the second game may put us even higher.  An odd scenario after only seven games into the season.  I'm guessing it's that "Orioles Magic" thing...cue the song

All the other teams in the AL East losing is Birdland

If we sweep the doubleheader...

our lead in the AL East will be pretty much insurmountable and the rest of the teams might as well pack it in for the year.

I already told my Yankee fan friends

That it's time to do so.

In other good news category, did anyone catch this blurb from the Sun?

"No team that has started the season with a 6-1 record has finished with 100 losses, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The 1977 Oakland Athletics posted the worst final record (63-98) for a team that started 6-1."

Thank you, Jinxy McJinxerson

Better hope we don't lose both games....

For reals

this is just about the time when superstition goes into full swing.

So maybe this is a plan

Don't play any more games and let everyone just fall behind?

Is anyone really expecting a better season than the prediction the team will be very near 100 losses?

I just enjoy what's happening now and expect that starter pitching line of about 5IP per start, 1.55 WHIP, 5.59 ERA, 19 BB, 19K to start coming into play.

I am not

and the fear of the fall makes me all the more superstitious.

I still have no hope for a winning season

I'm just having fun while it lasts.

Incidentally, I have a real bad feeling about today. Trax and Loewen don't inspire a lot of confidence right now. It feels a bit too much like a certain doubleheader last year. I recall us being on a nice little run before that one too.

Not to put a damper on Birdland or anything...

I am expecting this team to do very well...

... up until the trade deadline. So well that Peter Angelos, seeing the mirage of the post season, will refuse to pull the trigger on all the trades that need to happen to make us a competitor in the long term.

At that point, BRob will get injured, our starting pitchers will all look like Daniel Cabrerra, and Luke Scott will turn into a pumpkin. Basically, a replay of the second half of 2005, with the added bonus that it will totally screw up our chances for a long-term rebuilding.

But we are good now, and I appreciate that.

damn - that's not Andy MacPhail's Birdland

There is an article floating around (Heyman?) that said a good start will be great for the O's because it should afford the opportunity to trade at the deadline. Let's see. They have a few months to go. And then let's hope they pull the trigger.

I just threw salt over my shoulder

seriously these posts are jinxy, scooby doo!

F jinxes!

Jinxes are for Red Sox and Cubs fans. Fat outfielders and goats. We lose routinely because we suck. If we start losing now it's because we suck.

The one thing I always appreciated about the White Sox was that they never had a big curse or jinx thing for why they didn't win the World Series. They were just bad most of the time, or came up short occasionally. And I mean, the Black Sox were RIGHT THERE for curse purposes.

Goats are stupid

But that still doesn't mean you should go around talking about sweeping a double-header before it starts. I recall a double header against Texas last year where there was talk of taking them both. We gave up 39 runs that evening....

so?

It's because we played like shit. It had nothing to do with a jinx.

by SC on Apr 10, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It may very well be a jinx...

That causes us to play like shit. Markakis' error in the first inning of the first game tonight sure looked jinxy.

At any rate, I don't care if you call it a jinx, or just rack it up to bad mojo - empirical data has demonstrated that talking about sweeping Rangers double headers is simply not a good idea.
