minor leagues

so, everybody already knows about wieters. he's nasty and he needs to be in bowie soon. 3 for 4 with two home runs tonight, tied for the league lead in homers, lots to like there. but that's not who i'm excited about tonight.

i'm excited about chris tillman. the kid is 20 years old. tonight, he threw six innings of 1 hit ball. he's walking too many people, but i repeat, he's 20 years old. and he's tearing it up in AA to the tune of 3-0 record, 2.87 e.r.a., 1.18 whip, and 29 Ks in 31 innings. i know i'm laying down a huge jinx on this kid right now and he's young and could get hurt or never pull it together after facing some adversity or whatever... but there's a decent chance that we look back and say "tillman for bedard straight up would have been better for us than them." jones is going to be a nice piece for the outfield for a long time, but tillman is going to make that trade the heist of the decade for us.

actually

When the trade was made I read where a few scouts went as far as to say that in a few years this wont be the Adam Jones trade but instead the Chris Tillman trade. But there is still a lot for him to do before he is ready to help at Camden Yards (he still walks quite a few guys but at age 20 that has to be expected).

On a side note Wieters went 3 for 4 with 2 HR last night.

by the way...

also bears noting that brandon tripp outslugged wieters last week at frederick. he also had 3 homers, but added a double. billy rowell’s been on a nice little tear w/ two hits in 5 of his last 6 games (including a couple doubles and a homer).

rough week for some of the other big name pitching prospects (i’m looking at you erbe and hernandez!)

ronnie's a dillweed.

Tillman v Jones?

I’m definitely going with Jones on this one, as I think he’ll be our #3 hitter in two years (moving Markakis to the four hole). My enthusiasm with Tillman and Arrieta is tempered by TINSTAAP (hello Patton!).

But our system is as strong as it ever has been in my lifetime, and I could be seventy and that would still be true…

Our system is stronger in the pitching department

we have tons of holes on the position player end. I have a feeling our next round of July-trading will involve 3/4 position players, 1/4 pitching..
