The curious case of Mr. Huff
One of the few bright spots of the current O's slide has been Aubrey Huff's hitting.
With nobody of consequence protecting him, Aubrey is batting cleanup and having a solid year. His totals over the season project to 85 runs, 26 HR, and 98 RBI, with an OPS just under 800 at 790. On a team that had anyone batting behind him, it's reasonable to assume those totals will improve a bit.
He's being paid $8M this year and will be paid another $8M next year. And at this rate, he will play his way onto a contender in July.
My question: Given that he's obviously a salary dump, not really beloved in his hometown, and is just another 1B/DH, what can we reasonably expect to get for him?

I'm clueless on stuff like this
But if there is any chance to get a middle infield prospect, I’d go for it. No offense, Freddie!

I'll take any warm body
Considering we traded Chris Britton for a barely warm body during an offseason when we weren’t hoping to contend, I would think Huff would be of some use to someone at the deadline. Maybe Tampa will want him back if Pena keeps slumping. And Tampa will be in the wild card hunt.

TB might want him back
just so he doesn’t kill them every game he plays against them! Might be worth 3-4 wins right there!

Not worth much
He’s a poor defensive player and a 790 OPS is nothing special at DH.
He’s not a starter on a contender, but he’s being paid like a starter.
I’d consider the Orioles lucky to get rid of him without eating salary. Maybe they can also get a middle relief prospect in return.

I sort of agree...
If he keeps this up, teams won’t mind his subpar defense.. he can supposedly play 1st and 3rd (I know that’s a stretch)... they just want a solid bat.
I just don’t see a team giving up a quality prospect for Huff. It just won’t happen…

I feel like
maybe the O’s should be giving him some time at 1B and 3B. That could only help his value.

One would hope
Yeah, it could help his value; on the other hand, it could reveal how much his defense truly sucks.

maybe
Like spike said, it might be better to leave it as a minor myth that “This guy can play four positions!”

Oops
I actually did buy a ticket, but I realized the next day I’d made prior plans for Sunday afternoon.
That’s what I get for making plans after a few too many. I hope the show went well (and continues to go well).
I’d still like to see it, but with moving and travelling, my weekends are pretty well booked through then end of June.

hitting behind Markakis helps
I doubt he’ll fetch anything beyond a relief prospect in a trade if he keeps his current pace. But Huff’s bat has been useful (OPS+ 115) so that’s positive.

depends on the desperation of the team that might want him
If it’s a relatively intelligent team, not a lot, since his OPS doesn’t much support the counting stats in many ways. I mean, he’s having an OK year, but really it’s nothing special.

The Cubs are thinking about signing Jimmy Edmonds
Maybe they can be fooled twice on trades with the O’s? No? Yeah, didn’t think so.
Too bad the Reds fired Krivsky. He might’ve been game.
