Next four weeks are going to be brutal
I was just looking at my handy pocket O's schedule that they hand out when you buy tickets, and the O's face a tough road in the coming month. I'm going to try to maintain my zen attitude throughout, but my faith will certainly be tested. Behold:
- 13-14 May: vs. Boston
- 16-18 May: vs. Washington
- 20-22 May: @ New York
- 23-25 May: @ Tampa Bay
- 26-28 May: vs. New York
- 30 May - 2 June: vs. Boston
- 3-5 June: @ Minnesota
- 6-8 June: @ Toronto
- 10-12 June: @ Boston
Except for Toronto and Washington, that's pretty freaking tough. My current outlook on the O's tells me logically that it doesn't matter, but it's going to be hard to watch the carnage. And with 21 of those 27 games against teams in the AL East, well, you know.
So to try to stay positive, here are few things I'll be happy with, regardless of the team's record:
- Continuing awesomeness of Daniel Cabrera
- Starting pitching remaining competent
- Trade value being built up for Huff, Payton, Millar, Bradford, and the like
- Playing good hard games, not making silly mental or fundamental mistakes

You say brutal, I say exciting
We have a chance to effect the AL East in a big way here, regardless of our actual record over the next four weeks. Your “happy points” are key to that impact, though, and are important to keep sight of. I really hope Huff continues to hit well so we can trick some team into trading for him. The Mariners need some offense….. do you think they’d be dumb enough to trade with the Orioles again?

Guess the record in the 27-game stretch:
i’ll start the bidding at 10-17.

12-15
I’m sorry, but the Minnesota Twins haven’t started scaring me, the Yankees are lame and we play them tough anyway, Toronto and Washington aren’t worth a crap.

26 games, right?
12 games against Minnesota, Washington, Tampa, Toronto, 9 of which are on the road:
I’ll go with 5-7.
14 games against the Yankees/Sox
I’ll say 5-9.
10-16 overall.

11-15
sounds about right. 12-14 is a little too close to .500 for this stretch

No that's not true
AMA has said on a number of occasions that he’s been a Red Sox fan for 20 years. He knows a lot about them. He might get annoying sometimes but he never struck me as a bandwagoner.

25 games left now thru the June 12th game w/ Boston
I’ll go 13 – 12.
Boston is going to take some games back from us. I figure we’ll win most of the other series – TB & Minn maybe not.

4 - 1 thru 5 games.....
...it would be great to come finish this stretch above .500 or better. But let’s remember, we have 4 starters pitching pretty well, we need a 5th. I will admitt, I liked the fact that Steve Trachsel was signed to a minor league contract, but he has performed well under par and piches soooooooo s-l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-w. Maybe use Matt Albers every 9th game? (a 4 1/2 man rotation?)
And now that Alex Cintron & Freddie Bynum are our new shortstops, where does that leave Luis Hernandez, I haven’t seen him in days. Maybe he should be optioned to Norfolk & Oscar Salazar should be called up. It would give the O’s a right handed ‘power’ hitter off the bench & would be able to give Millar a well deserved couple of days off.
... just my thoughts.
PLEASE -- JUST PLEASE THROW STRIKES.

At this point
what purpose DOES Luis Luis serve if he’s not giving B-Rob days off?

Let's look at the pitching
Rasner & Mussina are their 2 best starters, which should tell you all you need to know about the state of the team at the present time.
Get one of those 2 & you’re looking at a series win. Because Kennedy = tee ball

One thing that ticks me off..
- and I know Trembley haaaaates when people bring up the past – we’re great at breaking slumps for other teams.
We’ve done it repeatedly for the Yankees as well. I think the last few years, when the Yanks started off slow and they received a lot of criticism, it was a well-timed series against the Orioles where they soundly beat us and ESPN and the rest of the sporting world rejoiced at their comeback… and this is a poorly constructed run-on sentence. But you got the point.
Beware this series!
