Great day...

and if you’re watching the post-game show Quiroz is wearing a Markakis shirt from last night.

is it just me...

or did these guys seem to get personalities overnight?

It's not just you.

This team has more personality than the past 10 teams combined.
They’re fun to watch & they’re fun to read. I actually like these guys, even the ones who don’t play well.
when’s the last time that happened?

I was badmouthing Payton pretty much right until he hit that

And I’ll probably go back to badmouthing him again tomorrow.

It's funny you say that

I was at the game, and my friend and I were totally trashing Payton to some other fans sitting with us in the bleachers. We pretty much shit on him every time he got up to bat, and we were really disappointed when the two-out rally turned didn’t yeild a run before Payton came to the plate; we were sure he’d end the inning.

In fact, my friend (who had been enjoying some beers) said that he wouldn’t respect Jay Payton even if he hit a grand slam. He hadn’t even finished saying that sentence before Payton hit a granny. True story.

in looking back

I don’t why Okijima feed him fastballs. I’m surprised he didn’t throw him breaking stuff off the plate since it isn’t hard to get Jay to swing at junk.

ITS OK SAWX

THE DEPARTED STILL!

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Let’s give em all a nice big shitburger to eat, indeed.

we've had a bunch of 3 run homers lately.

Now a grand slam.

I could get used to this. (Although I know I shouldn’t.)

another quality start for the man.

How do we give up 12 hits and only 3 runs?

Must have been those 4 double plays…

Also,

the difference between us and the Red Sox is just wins. We are even in the loss column. Now we’re all chasing Tampa Bay.

Y'know, there's something even *more* encouraging about this win...

The not-blowing-your-cool when you’re down 3-0 to a team you’re 1-9 against lifetime and don’t have your best stuff is so un-Old Daniel. And SO Birdland!

Z, you stuck with him. Ahem: We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy!

yeah, well

even I fear that a little bit. I mean 10 hits over 7 innings is not exactly gravy.

by zknower on May 15, 2008 10:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and don't forget...

those two homers.

BUT w/ his BABIP going up .020 in his last starts, his era has dropped a bit and remained constant. didn’t track his bb/k rates going back a couple weeks, but those should be improving, too.

maybe this means nothing, but it seems to me the closer his BABIP gets to the median, if he’s still doing well, we have less to worry about.

Ho-hum, another slam, another sweep of the Sawx, another bad call (or two) going OUR way against the NYBosSawkees

Same old same old.

OK, I freakin’ FAINTED when I saw the box this morning. And I’m in Happyland for maybe a week or something now. Hey Sawx:

ESPN is not birdland

The headline on my widget thing for the recap of yesterdays’ game says “Manny’s snag, high-five steal O’s thunder.” Go to hell!!!

by cubotic on May 15, 2008 1:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Good lord

That is just ridiculous! Manny’s catch and high five steals JAY PAYTON’S GRAND SLAM HOME RUN thunder? Please. I’m sure the Red Sox fans were so tickled by Manny’s high five that they totally didn’t care that they lost.

payton v lefties

Well, if there is one thing Payton is good at, it’s hitting lefties. I hope Trembley puts him against lefties and then doesn’t press his luck…

Hey, does Jay Pay have any trade value?
