Flat Billed Fans? Really?
To emphasize the team's us-against-the-world mentality, Sherrill pastes up offending newspaper clippings next to his locker for additional motivation. He has 15 saves to rank second in the major leagues, so it's apparently working.
The turned-up hats, however, are more fun.
"We only do it when we win, so it's pretty good," said Sherrill, who started wearing his cap like that in 2003 because he couldn't bend the bill to fit his head. "It's pretty funny. It has taken on a life of its own. Maybe the fans will take it up."
What happened to the hand thing or the dance or whatever it was called...

Did that go with Miggy?
I pose this simple question...

Voted no, but..
I’d wear it in the 9th at OPACY to pull for another save
...one more dying quail a week and you're playing in Yankee Stadium...
Pretty much my take on the matter
"We're going to play all 27 outs. If you can beat us for all 27, then we'll tip our hats. But we're going to grind out every at-bat." - Brian Roberts
agreed.
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."
It's officially a fad
Even the high school kids are doing it now…
Our HS team beat the city rival (and #1 seed) yesterday, and at least one of ours flipped the brim.

not really new
kids of the hip hop persuasion have been doing this for several years

Everything's 5 years late in Salisbury...
"I wasn't here for the losing years. But it feels a little like the days with Earl in charge and John Lowenstein smashing birthday cakes in the middle of the clubhouse with a bat." - John "T-Bone" Shelby

... but i find myself trying to flatten it out after the last out is recorded like the players.
PLEASE -- JUST PLEASE THROW STRIKES.
oh man, i can't believe all these no's.
i’d totally do it. and if ends up not working out for george, i could always … unflatten it?
I don't wear hats, because my head is too big
but my friend is never seen without a baseball cap, and he flattened his brim during the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game. He wasn’t the only one to do it, either – I saw three other guys in our section doing the same thing. Wear the flat brim with pride!
and he drives a pickup truck.

You must have seen the photo
circulating on the Internet.
What you are seeing is actually my pinkie. It’s a close-up shot of the member in question, but all that made it into the frame was the last digit on the hand holding said member. That pinkish looking background is actually supposed to be the subject of the photo. (I take lousy pictures.)
I've tried
My head is REALLY big. And while there are hats that fit, it makes me look ridiculous. Same for my brother and father – none of us wear baseball caps. Ever.
that is big
I wear a 7 7/8. Once I tried to see how one of these would fit me. I tried on the XL and it didn’t fit, and they don’t make XXL. Sucks, because it they did, that 1988 Bird hat would be mine.
and that hand thing?
i think it was called “grown men playing patty-cake”.
fllat brims are funnier. more personality-ish

Aw I loved the hand thing!
Luckily I have it immortalized with my Brian Roberts and Melvin Mora hand slap bobbleheads.
"We’re not concerned about what other teams think. I know teams come in here thinking we’re playing the Orioles. And then 9 innings later, they got the loss, they know what we’re about." ~Adam Jones
hey, remember when they made the brianbob-lehead and it was black?
only in opacy…

For what it's worth...
I finally made it to my first game of the season tonight. Cold as hell. As Sherrill trudged in from the ‘pen, I turned up the bill of my cap, and the two guys sitting to my left followed suit. My dad gave it a valiant try, but his hat wouldn’t cooperate.
This could catch on…right?
