Now is the time...
...to once again raise the issue of putting the name "Baltimore" on the Orioles' road jerseys. I know this is a home series aganst the Nationals, but still the issue remains unresolved as we start a series against our neighbors to the south. The whole purpose of Peter Angelos's insistance that the O's are a regional team was wiped away when DC got their team. It can be argued that every team with a city's name is a regional team, but they are all based in a specific city and their road jerseys should reflect that civic pride. Amongst so many other changes I would make if I owned this franchise, the first thing I'd do is restore my pride of this town by proudly displaying the word "Baltimore" across the front of the Orioles' road jerseys!

I prefer the Ornithalogically correct logo on our hats
but not on the rest of our apparel. A shoulder patch could be very classy.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I agree with putting Baltimore on road jerseys
But I’m not sure why everyone always acts like this is Peter Angelo’s great transgression. The Orioles haven’t had Baltimore on their jerseys since before I was born.

well, he's the only one who can change it now
i know he didn’t originally take baltimore off the jerseys, but he does bear responsibility for the last 15 years. and he’s no worse than the owner before him, but it doesn’t do much good to yell at EBW at this point. PA can make the change now and buy himself some goodwill… i just can’t understand why he won’t do it. it’s just unbelievable to me.

I hear ya on this one
We’ve had our disagreements on the O’s, Rexx, but taking “Baltimore” off the road jerseys was dumb and just pointless. Like, why bother to take it off? Why do that?
By the way, I thought you nailed your Ravens post-draft analysis. I’m not a Ravens fan, but I agreed with pretty much everything you said there.

Post-Draft
Hey, did I miss the analysis? I like reading up on the Ravens b/c of the OU connections.

Reading between the lines...
at The Ol’ Sun
Years ago, a Washington team promoting itself in downtown Baltimore might have seemed like an enemy incursion. But Angelos, when apprised of the event yesterday, said: “It doesn’t strike me in any particular way. They’re welcome to do that. It’s a free country,” Angelos said. “It [Baltimore and Washington] is one huge megalopolis, you know? It’s about time we realize it.”
No, Mr. Angelos, it’s about time you realize that Baltimore and DC are two distinct cities that both have their own teams. It about time you put Baltimore back on the road jerseys. It’s about time you go down in a ball of fire with your sons. Sorry, that last one eeked in there.
But anyway, it doesn’t sound like PA wants any part in distinguishing the two “areas” and therefore will probably always believe that Washington is “birdland” too.

We're not unique
I believe the Phillies, Cardinals, and LAAAOCCA do this as well. I’m not defending PFA, and I really don’t care, but I’m not from/in Bmore, so I’ll let y’all argue.
At least we put the player names on the uniforms, unlike some assholish teams.

True, but Phillies have part of the city name in their team name; I’m guessing that has something to do with it. And I would guess that LAAOCCA can’t fit their entire team city/township/county/precinct/longitude on a jersey. Never noticed that about ST Louis and am kind of surprised.
I think we should have Baltimore on the jersey; but it really doesn’t bother me that much.

Amen
The home city is the lifeblood of a sports franchise. The Orioles should be proud to represent Baltimore on their jerseys. This shouldn’t even be a discussion.
