Did you know that Cabrera threw at Melky?
For giggles, I scoped out some Yankee blogs this morning to see how they were coping with yesterday's pounding. Peter Abraham of the LoHud Yankees Blog actually had a rational take on the Jeter HBP and LaTroy's response to it...but his readers begged to differ .
The level of Yankee sycophantism (probably not a word) is hilarious bordering on nausea-inducing, including those who refer to Jeter as the Man or "our Man". There's even a Red Sox fan who is very persistent in his (correct) argument that Mr. Yankee dives in with his hands first, which is why he's always getting plunked and which is why he was plunked last night.
But the best are the handful of yahoos who insist that not only was Danny at fault for hitting Jeter, but he'd also thrown at Melky earlier in the game. For those who weren't watching, he threw a pitch high and tight; Melky spun out, but was in no real danger of being hit.
If you've got some time to waste, take a read and try to stifle your laughter.

Damn straight the Yankees should retaliate when Jeter gets hit. Yes, Jeter dives over the plate, but it’s not okay for teams to be busting the captain up and in.
Last I checked it IS okay for teams to pitch up and in… I believe it called using the plate.
If a pitch is thrown such that our guy can’t get out of the way… well you better stay on your toes.
Huh? Well he could if he wasn’t kamikaze.
Hawkins two pitches were "messages" and were in no way even close to Scott’s head.
Not even close??? Oh that’s right. He should not have moved that way it would have beaned him in the noggin.
Pete,
I really like your point of view sometimes but come on… the O’s were leading by 10 runs at the time. There was absolutely no reason to pitch inside at the risk of injuring a player.
I believe a pitcher can pitch inside any time he damn well pleases, no?

"Hawkins two pitches were "messages" and were in no way even close to Scott’s head."A lot of us need to get a grip. He was clearly throwing at his head and there is no other way to see it.
I agree with retaliation, but there is never an excuse for headhunting, never.
String of bad games, tough loss and a lot of you turn in to absolute animals.
It’s not a pretty sight and makes the rest of us look bad.
At lease somebody gets it.

Daniel Cabrera threw at Melky’s head long before Latroy was even in the game. Then he hit Jeter.Just because the guy has a reputation for being wild he does not get a pass. You need to send a message that you will protect your players regardless – force him to take retaliation into account when he decides he’s going inside, especially in a 9-0 game.
My only problem with the Yankees is that their style of "retaliation" seems to be throwing near the head. Its a stupid approach because unless you are really sick you do not really want to hit them. They’d be much better off just hitting them in their midsection and getting it over with. As Jeter said…. "near doesn’t hurt". It was probably as much a message to his own pitchers as to anyone.
WTF?!? Do these people seriously think Jeter was hit on purpose… ‘cause thats exactly what you want to do when up by 9 runs. Put someone on base to try to start some kind of rally.

To be fair
The guy is a fan of wang.
Oh, it’s pronounced “Wong”? My mistake.

Yankee fans are funny
Jeter gets hit many times with balls that a barely off the plate because of his hitting style. Last night was a case of a pitcher who has devastating stuff but suspect command.
Hawkins two pitches were "messages" and were in no way even close to Scott’s head. The ejection, however, was necessary because Hawkins seemed like he wanted to send "messages" until the benches would empty – perhaps to light a spark under his Team and its pathetic performance over the last week.
Daniel Cabrera does not have suspect command (anymore). The second pitch was DAMN close to Scott’s head, and in no way was Hawkins trying to light a spark under his team, he’s just an idiot. Oh and also, is team capitalized in this manner much in the way people capitalize Him when talking to God? If so, gag me.

The really bad part is
Not only did Hawkins try and hit Scott (twice!), he tried to hit Huff twice! Four intentional pitches to hit someone and he couldn’t do it!
I did notice, as have several others, he didn’t go after guys who were on the team when he was here…

I think Girardi called it from the dugout
This isn’t the first time this a Yankees pitcher has gone headhunting this year. Also, Girardi was out of the dugout to break up the fight before it was even clear what had happened. It’s almost as if he knew it was going to happen…
I think he should get suspended along with Hawkins.
