Angels 6, O's 5: Trachsel

If he is not DFA'd and replaced in the rotation by someone more deserving (Albers, Johnson, Liz), then I refuse to watch any game he's pitching in. I already know the outcome because the Orioles are going to lose. Everytime he runs out onto the field it is an embarassment to this franchise. He did a great job for us last year, but he isn't even able to be traded pitching like this. Also, he is not worth any kind of bullpen spot because what good is a long reliever that would just get hammered and not eat innings. Trachsel's sole job on this team is to eat innings and not put so much strain on the bullpen. Instead, 3 of his last 4 starts have yet to go for more than 3 innings. He has allowed 20 runs in 21 innings since his first start. He only has 21 innings since his first start! On top of that, he's allowed an exhuberant amount of hits and walked nearly a batter an inning.

Get this embarassment off my team MacPhail before the fans and I take it upon ourselves to end his season.

[Note by SC, 05/05/08 6:07 AM EDT ]: PWubbs is granted Official Recapper Status for today because he's absolutely correct. And by the way, during the Community Projection for this season, I said, "Every possible sign there points to this being a final, disastrous season in the sun for the 37-year old crafty righty." This is similar to how I compare Sammy Sosa to Mickey Mantle in same-age seasons when Sosa came to Baltimore. Mantle retired the season after the two I compared, and Sosa was then out of baseball after his Oriole experience. I'm like the harbinger of death over here.

I agree 100%

What a terrible idea it was to pay this joker again.

by pipkin on May 4, 2008 7:30 PM EDT   0 recs

No, it just didn't work out

The O’s wanted an arm they thought they could count on to eat innings and be somewhere around .500 – Trachsel fit that bill quite nicely last year.

The thought was he could do it again this year, and at a relatively cheap price. He can’t. Now it is time to cut him loose. But I don’t think it was necessarily a bad decision at the time to sign him. It just didn’t work out. Time to cut bait.

Yup

I was in favor of signing Trachel this year. Seemed like a chance worth taking. If he had given us another year like last year, it would have been totally worth it.

But hey, you win some, you lose some. This didn’t work out, but that didn’t make it a bad idea.

Get rid of Razor! Roberts, Mora, T-Bone

The whole lot of them. Yucking it up to turn a phantom HR into an out at 2B. Pickoffs galore the past few days. Mora is the king of boneheaded base running.

Wasn’t Diamond Dave all about fundamentals and respecting the game? Dave, outs are precious. Carelessly giving them up is an embarrassment. Take yourself (and the team) to the woodshed and you can all beat the snot out of each other.

I refuse to watch a Trax start since I sat through the torture in person last May. I recommend it. How about a rotation of Guthrie, Cabrera, Burress, Albers, Olson? I don’t know that guys like Liz, Penn should make the leap up. Trax can take his veteran presence to the BP.

by drj on May 4, 2008 7:45 PM EDT   0 recs

I think we should pay the Yankees

to keep Trax on their 25 man roster

postgame radio guys were incredulous about ramon's comments

Even though I have a love/hate relationship with Dave Johnson and his girly broadcast voice, he made some good points. He and Tom listened to Ramon’s postgame comments for the first time live on the air (Ramon said “it happens” and that he’s not going to look back and dwell on it) and Dave immediately said WRONG ANSWER re: ramon.

They mentioned walker and another bullpen guy taking responsibility for their play in other games, and wondered why Ramon wasn’t taking responsibility for his awful baserunning. Why, indeed. Dave Johnson said Trembley should tell Ramon: “If it happened again, you’re on the bench.”

I'm glad I didn't watch this game

Too nice a day so squander watching Trax.

Stick Trax in the pen and put Albers in the rotation.

Unfortunately, with Penn and Liz struggling at AAA, the O’s don’t have the starting pitching depth to just dump Trax at this point.

Too bad we didn’t make the Roberts trade – Gallagher was just called up by the Cubs. Hopefully Roberts doesn’t ruin his trade value completely with bonehead baserunning.

by dkdc on May 4, 2008 8:32 PM EDT   0 recs

Penn and Liz may be struggling

But Albers and JJ have performed well. Replace Traschel with either of those two. I don’t think Traschel will released quite yet but it’s getting close. He may be able to withstand another dud start but another 2 dud starts will definitely kill him.

Wolf, wolf, wolf.

by birdman on May 4, 2008 9:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm afraid moving JJ into the rotation will screw him up

He’s been great so far. I would just let him do what he’s been doing.

Even the jock-sniffing turd/Orioles apologist

we know as Roch Kubatko mentioned on his blog something to the effect of “maybe Trachsel “deserves another start because of his veteran presence and blah blah blah bullhsit bullshit bullshit bad joke reference to chick he’d like to bone blah blah blah.” If Roch is turning on him, the end must be coming soon.

"...blah blah blah bullhsit bullshit bullshit bad joke reference to chick he’d like to bone blah blah blah."

Nice Roch summary! I had a low-content-per-words-uttered teacher in h.s. who was quoted as follows (quoted, mind you) by a student asked to recap one of his lectures for another student: “Blah-blah-bullsh*t-zip-zero-nothing. For 35 minutes.”

Why this teacher didn’t mention the chick he’d like to bone remains a mystery. Anyway, I assume Roch also had this guy for English.

Why is he still around?

Seriously i cant think of a good reason, what does he do that somebody else couldn’t do better in our organization? Nobody will trade for this guy, no matter how well he does, not after what happened to the Cubs last year.

He brings a veteran presence to the rotation.

In the Pen??

Are you kidding me? What good is a guy who can’t eat innings as a starter going to do when he can’t eat innings as a reliever either? If he is not starting, then he does not belong on this team.

I am for keeping JJ in the pen because he has been so strong there. Albers is the logical choice to step in for Trachsel especially after I looked up how the Tides were doing. Every one in the starting rotation has an ERA over 5. Awesome. Just awesome.

Little League Fundamentals

The O’s lose a game by one run, while Ramon goes into his home run jog on a double. Not only that, but the first base coach (who is it?) slaps hands w/ him as he rounds first base! So at least Ramon has some idiot looking out for him! Roberts gets thrown out on the basepaths twice. After getting thrown out at third in the first inning, the O’s go on to get four more hits. Tremblay either has given Roberts the green light or he’s just as clueless as his predecessor was. Little League coaches know when you have a runner in scoring position and your #3 batter at the plate, you give him the chance to drive him in. Just because Markakis proves he is still a youngster by hacking at the first pitch, unable to move Roberts along doesn’t mean you should lose confidence in your #3 batter. Isn’t he there to drive in runs. Tremblay said he’s focusing on fundamentals? Too bad these veterans slept through that lesson! Hernandez-gone! Roberts-gone! Niedermeyer-gone!

without first having looked to see whether it WAS, in fact, a HR, was freakin’ bush league. How do you not at LEAST look for the umpire giving the signal?

mora on roberts' stolen base

somebody on here mentioned a few weeks ago how mora always ducks when he’s at the plate during a stolen base attempt. i never really noticed it until yesterday. gotta think roberts would be safe if the catcher had to throw around him.

used to go around with the Trashman last year and she ended up with a couple STDs. I know baseball players are good at getting chicks, but seriously, that old guy?

Though I think I did get rid of the ones older than Trax in this year’s spring dresser clean-out. You just don’t need wily socks.

Joke, just a joke. In fact, I think men's socks are one of the LEAST serviceable clothing items.

They frequently crap out at the toe (less often the heel) in like a year, whereas I’ve had shirts and jackets that’ve gone decades, seriously. And jockey shorts are legendary, of course. Ask Palmer.

Dude, I’m sure even minor players like Sarfate or Bynum do extremely well in this dept. They just flash that they play for a big league team, and boom, tons of girls are all over them. Most of them probably can’t assess the ability of the player anyways.

Goodbye Trachsel

There is no way this guy is staying on the rotation. I think I’m paraphrasing someone else here who said better to let one of these young guys develop , improve and lose the game for us than to have Trachsel mess it up with no benefit to the organization. If Toronto can eat Frank Thomas’ salary, and let him go we should do the same with Trachsel. I’m going to go out on a limb and say nobody wants Steve Trachsel in any sort of trade. Maybe Sir Sidney wants back to Baltimore. That was a joke; not as funny as Ramon Hernandez’s base running. What’s with the O’s on the bases lately?

by OriolesNorth on May 5, 2008 12:27 PM EDT   0 recs

Steve Trachsel Sucks

It’s just a matter of time before Old Turtle falls asleep in between pitches.

by Dr. J on May 5, 2008 2:03 PM EDT   0 recs

I understand that he is horrendus

But I just don’t hate the guy. He did well for us last year and his demeanor hasn’t changed at all. The guy isn’t pitching well this year because he is nearly forty years old, and those guys are supposed to hit the spots and he just can’t do that. I just can’t find the energy to give him slack though, he is trying as hard as he can and isn’t making dumb mistakes like balks or not covering the bag. He walks a ton of guys because he has to nibble the entire batters box as batters are tempted to swing at every 35 mph ball that he throws.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

by Baltimo on May 5, 2008 3:03 PM EDT   0 recs

I'm not saying I hate him

But he has no right to be on this team the way he has been pitching.

by wscott on May 5, 2008 6:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll go ahead and say I hate him

In fact, I’d be perfectly happy if he was drastically injured in a tragic bus accident and had his right arm torn off, thus precluding the chance of him ever pitching for us again. I don’t think I’d lose any sleep. Maybe if he died.

ugh...

anybody read connolly today? rubbish. the argument is basically that the o’s need trachsel not b/c of veteran leadership, but b/c of stability. w/o citing numbers he says he gave them quality innings most of the time. just looking at game logs for trax from last year, his ratio of quality starts to non q/s is about even. same could be said for burres. cabrera was about 15 qs to 20 non-qs while of every start logged by guts, only 5 were not quality.

i mean, cabrera, burres and guts are not babies. 26, 28 and 29? carbrera’s been up w/ the big club for 4 years? c’mon, dude. trax doesn’t deserve a roster spot.
