O's 4, Royals 1: Off the schneid!
Poor Royals. They just can't beat us. They are unable to handle the ferocity that is Orioles Magic.
Good to see Freddie Bynum in the lineup. Yeah, I said it.
Daniel Cabrera is my daddy, your daddy, everyone's daddy. Yeah, I said it.
Winning a game after losing a bunch is always fun. And to be fair, the O's were losing tight games, sometimes because they couldn't hit, and sometimes because they just didn't win. (Like if Steve Trachsel pitched. Which is, sadly, coming up tomorrow.)
But remember: TONY PENA IS WATCHING YOU.

Traschel's start
On one hand, I want root for him because I want the team to win. On the other hand, another dud start from Traschel may kick him out of the rotation and or least put him one start closer to being kicked out.

y'know, here'e the thing...
dd’s adherence to principles can be irritating, but he’s not a shithead about ‘em. i mean, i think he appreciated what luis squared did last year and wanted to give him every chance to hold down the starting job, but has ultimately come to the realization that he is crap. i would be very surprised if luis squared starts regularly again aside from absolute necessity.
my point is, i think your spot on w/ trax. in spite of his peripherals, he did manage to keep the o’s in a lot of games last year, and i think dd want to give him the benfit of the doubt, but they can only keep in the rotation so long if the youngsters are ready to run circles around him and he’s not producing.

Cabrera
Count me as another Cabrera doubter who has seen the light. I was wrong and zknower was right. Happy to admit it.

I'm still wavering on Cabrera. Too much past history.
Like all of us here, I’m just hoping this new guy is here to stay.

You SONUVABITCH!!!!
We will now lose three straight to the “poor Royals.”
I will hold you personally responsible again, Emil. That’s right, I’m calling you Emil from now on.

Have you no faith in Scott Christ?
I remember earlier this season when the O’s were down by a lot and SC said “the Orioles are gonna win this game. I can feel it.” And guess what? The Orioles won. He’s not a jinx. He endows the Orioles with awesome powers of winningness.

that was...
the game where payton hit, like, a three run homer. i believe that was the impetus for christ’s drunken boast.

re:
If you look at the lineups, you’ll notice Emil Brown, case in point that runs batted in mean F-all
That just happen to be the game in which Emil Brown drove in the game winning RBI.
Also see…We’re Terrible thread.
So in a nutshell, I lost my faith Christ 5/6/08… does that make me an atheist?

He's a jinx and a half.
Were you here during the 2005 season? Scott Christ jinxed the whole thing with sheer hubris and braggadocio. And let me add, when you get jinxed by a Scott Christ jinx, you fall hard, as the records from that season woefully reflect.

This is why it worries me
That he has recently been showing faith in Cabrerra.
Way to tempt fate, Scott.

yee-haw
I was deliriously happy to see Bynum in the lineup yesterday. Everytime I saw him on screen I yelled “Boom Boom!”
To be fair, I had a lot to drink last night.
Also, I just realized how ridiculous Freddy’s throwing motion is. Every throw is like a Chad Brad pitch that almost sails over Millar’s head.

Funny...
I kept singing Boom, boom, boom…to the John Lee Hooker tune only to remember about the 8th inning that the lyrics were Bang and not Boom.
p.s. unfortunately I had little to drink but I do like JLH.

Just sayin'...
Does anyone remember during last years inter-league series verse the Padres the announcers gave Bynum the nickname ‘shoes’ because of his orange shoes. I liked it. Its stuck in my head.

ugh
I just realized Freddie’s OBP last year was .290. At least he can make the throw to first, unlike Luis. Cuz he’s not really any better offensively.
by pipkin on May 9, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, well...
his .448 slg from last year is better than that of every oriole curently EXCEPT nick markakis. a .453 career slg is no great shakes, but is pretty good for a middle infielder.

I don't remember that, but I like it too.
Did anyone call Brian Roberts “socks” when he was wearing those ridiculous white shoes last year? It was like he forgot what team he played for & bought all his gear to match the Athletics color scheme.

update needed
Someone over at orioles.com should update that All Star ballot banner to remove Luis from the SS category. Mybe they should just leave that box blank for now.

that they were almost exterminated in Europe right after the turn of the century but have been reintroduced and I’ve attached a picture of one. Hey, if it’s on Al Gore’s intronets it’s gotta be true.
