On Trax Keeping His Job
Steve Trachsel pitches against the Royals tonight. This is very, vary bad. According to theorioles.com Trax has "the manager's vote of confidence." Still, he seems to need to pitch well in order to keep his job.
Pitching well against the Royals is really, really easy. They have an inept, historically bad offense. In many ways they're like the Orioles, in that their pitching staff is actually pretty decent and their offense stinks. Trax will probably go out there and pitch a quality start with 4 walks, 2 Ks, 7 hits, and a decent amount of luck. This will fool Diamond Dave into thinking he's worth keeping around for a while longer, that he still has something left in the tank.
I almost would prefer to see him get shelled by this terrible group of hitters in order to get rid of him. Nothing against him personally, of course, but I just don't want him on the team any more. He's not good.

Usually
when someone has the “manager’s vote of confidence” it means that everyone else is calling for the guy to lose his job & the manager is trying to prop him up for one last chance to prove himself.
So, frankly, I view this as a good thing.
From the Land of Pleasant Living...
I'm guessing
That even Dave probably wants to get rid of the guy, but that the FO is trying to salvage its investment while also buying time for whatever youngster is gonna do it.
Especially since, as has been noted before, the in-house options right now aren’t great. Albers could and probably should do it, but he’s pretty good in the bullpen, while all the usuall AAA suspects haven’t looked that good.
also...
the staff at norfolk is a little thin right now. i’d guess there are some guys they don’t want to expose at the lower levels, maybe. we’ll see what happens when rocky cherry and bascom start throwing again. also, things will probably start moving around quite a bit when the short season leagues start.

Vote of Confidence
Luis Luis had the manager’s vote of confidence as late as just a few days ago and now Freddy Bynum is the starting shorstop.
If Trachsel gets bumped around tonight, it will hopefully seal his fate. Unforunately, Liz and Penn have yet to pitch like they belong in the Majors so Albers will probably have to step into the rotation. I am ok with Albers starting, but I would much rather see Liz or Penn trying their luck.
Liz starts tonight for Norfolk
So he could step in for Trax’s next start on regular rest.
all i know is that if i ever got a manager's vote of confidence
i’d start looking into unemployment.
but that won’t happen, because i’m fat and i have leprosy.
huh...
well, the pads are jim edmonds’ contract. m’s just unloaded wilkerson along w/ mench (from the rangers) to the jays.

Loewen
My vote is that Trashman is gone once Loewen returns.

Trashman is most comparable to a guy no longer in the majors…
