I can't believe I'm the first one to link to this...
"After 36 years, it appears as if the city's name will make a return to the Orioles' road uniforms.
The Sun has learned that the Orioles are in the process of filing the required paperwork with Major League Baseball to add "Baltimore" to their road jerseys, replacing the nickname of the club that has adorned the away uniforms since 1973, according to a source with knowledge of the plans. The uniform change would go into effect for the 2009 season."
Best news of the year, as far as I'm concerned.

Not many on this board get overly excited about this.
Not that a number of us don’t want it.
Personally, I’d rather see it done after the team is no longer an embarrassment. If the O’s want to hearken back to the glory days, I think the best way is to field a team that played like them. Then they’ll have earned the right to wear something those players wore. Ditto for the cartoon bird.
In the meanwhile, the only thing this current crop of losers have the right to wear is the Angelos ornithologically correct loser bird.

I have been proud to call this team MY team
They play hard, and act like professionals. A rare commodity in this era of pro sports. It’s about time the away said Baltimore. GO O’s!

LONG overdue.
The Baltimore Orioles will receive my first ever order for an authentic jersey as soon as they are available for purchase.

/wipes a tear away
I always had a hard time justifying spending $100-$300 on a uni, but I love this place, and if the design is worth half a damn, I’m onboard. Can I get a “Honeybear” 21?

It's not a big deal to me
But it is to a lot of others, and it’s a pretty easy fix to build good will with the fans. I’m glad it finally happened.

this is birdland…
I’m really excited about this, if for no other reason then this is a sign that the warehouse is listening.
Being born in Baltimore and having seen the Colts leave town when I had just turned 8, I was (am) a little sensitive to being treated like a second class city. DC prevented a football team during a good portion of my childhood (I suppose we did the same with their baseball team, but fuck ‘em all the same). DC hasn’t suffered the hard times that we have and we finally get a local owner (well sorta) and he refuses to put the name of the city on the away jerseys, knowing how this is a thorn in the side of many. Everything this team did for years and years seemed to eradicate the word “baltimore” at every possible turn. I mean, next time you are in the stadium, count how many times you see the word ‘baltimore’. It’s crazy.
and fwiw, it was posted in a game thread!

HEY
I just remembered something – last year when this was being discussed, the word was that the Orioles were going to make uniform changes, plural.
I wonder what else is changing besides the road moniker?
Bird on hat? Removal of “O’s” from alternate cap? (please!)
I have an Orioles cap that has only the head of the ornithologically correct bird. The cap is called “The Closer” or something ridiculous like that. Incredibly comfortable. I get compliments on it whenever I wear it – it’s really sharp looking. Anyway, I’ve always wondered where the design came from & if they’d move to that hat as the primary…
Can’t buy the hat anymore, though, so probably not.
Has anyone else seen the stylized gothic “B” hats for sale in the Stadium Store at OPCY?
They sold so many of them last year that they had to re-order from a different manufacturer. The tag claims that the Orioles wore the hat in ‘58 – which they didn’t – but it’s extremely popular. That could be another possibility…
Ramblin’ thoughts…

I've seen that stylized B
It’s pretty sharp, but it doesn’t look like an Orioles hat to me. I guess because I’d never seen it before. My brother wears the block B hat (from 1963? I think). I like that one.

I like the block B too, but..
it looks a tad outdated. It’s really, really blocky.
The stylized one has become a favorite of mine, although nobody ever knows what it’s for other than O’s fans at the Yard.

I would love to see last names being removed from the back of the jerseys
