BALTIMORE: Steve Trachsel, P, DFA

The inevitable has finally happened - Steve Trachsel has been designated for assignment, ostensibly for the purposes of giving him his outright release.

From The (Baltimore) Sun :

The Orioles announced today that they have designated right-handed pitcher Steve Trachsel for assignment and selected the contract of first baseman Oscar Salazar from Triple-A Norfolk.

Trachsel, 37, was 2-5 with an 8.39 ERA in 10 games (8 starts) this season.

Salazar, 29, has a .311 batting average with seven home runs and 44 RBIs in 63 games for the Tides. He appeared in eight major league games with Detroit in 2002 and was signed by the Orioles as a minor league free agent in November 2006.

I would say "More as it becomes available...", but really, what is there to add?

i feel that a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders

Trash Can, RIP. you never really belonged here in the first place. Veteran presence in the clubhouse only goes as far as performance will take you.

Trax was steady for us last year

Honestly the way our pitching fell apart we were lucky to have him. Never really understood why they brought him back this year, though.

I think Trax was worth the gamble

But it didn’t work out. And they should have figured that out weeks ago.

You know why - the rotation was a huge question mark.

Guthrie – Was he going to be the real deal?
Cabrera – You know the story.
Loewen – He pretty much came up to expectation.
Olson – He seemed over matched last year.
Burres – He’s barely staying afloat in the back of the rotation.

Who from the minors was ready to come up: Liz, Penn, etc.?

Trax was another cheap body to throw into the mix. If he panned out, sort of like last year, fine. He didn’t.

Olson
Olson – He seemed over matched last year.

Did anyone else notice the shots Olson took at Mazzone in the Sun.

“If somebody is telling you that you don’t have to revamp everything you did to get here, you feel like you can keep going forward rather than backward,” said Olson, 5-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

“I’ve had success in the past throwing inside and being aggressive with hitters. At this level, Kranny’s been the first guy to reaffirm that for me. He encourages you to use your strengths.”

Leo seems to have done that to a lot of pitchers. Its amazing how much better our pitching is, overall, without him.

buh-bye.

Salazar? Is 1B suddenly a need with Millar/Huff?

Now that I think about it – Huff’s only played a couple games at 1B this year…

He's probably played almost as many at 3B

as he has at 1B, yes?

I’m guessing this is to give Trembley more than fleas to pick from off the bench in late innnings…

I'm thinking its an extra pinch hitter

Since we’ve got a road trip against the NL starting next week.

It's kinda disorienting

having a front office that actually thinks of things like this.

It was time

a couple weeks ago, but it really didn’t drag on too far past the point it became obvious.

Trachsel, still.

He’ll be working at Red Lobster by the end of the week.

He might be better suited to a job that does not require speedy delivery.

well...

maybe he’ll be working the smoker at a BBQ joint, it does take 14 hours to do a brisket, much like it took 14 hours for a typical Trachsel start.

Woo Hoo!!

More semblance of FO that knows what to do. Sorry Trax, and thank you for your service, but, buh-bye.

I'm still a Trachsel fan.

Good luck on another team if you get the shot!

The 4 man bench is probably temporary. Once Bierd is healthy again, he’s getting called up and someone has to go down. A 4 man bench is only useful if some of those guys can hit. None of ours can.

No idea what Salazar

can do, but he’s bound to be better use of a roster spot than Trax. Still, it was a nice career for Steve.

so long stevie

so i wanted this to happen as badly as everyone esle. still, somehow, i’ll look back at trax fondly. yea, he may have been pretty sucky, but he gave us some good innings last year and he’s just a likeable dude. farwell, sir trash.

It's about time..

I love Trax but he just doesn’t have it anymore. I wish him all the best.

Bye Trax

I don’t think anyone has anything against him, he just cannot pitch the ball anymore. I hope he retires because I just can’t see him being good anywhere anymore.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Fantastic.

A FO that seems to make logical decisions…again and again…I’m not sure how to handle this.

Some idiot on WNST

suggested we pick up Sydney since he already had a history with the O’s and he looked alright this year. My older brother in Texas was telling me that they had to pick him up from a bar just hours before his last start and that his drinking was getting worse and worse…sounds like just what the O’s need during this rebuilding…

On the TB trip

Pulled out of the hotel bar in the wee hours, then gave up something like 12 hits and 8 runs in 5 IP, I think. Pitched a fit in the dugout because he was pushed back a day, and one other outburst. But the bar trip was the straw that broke the GM’s back, I think.
