They lost
on the road, to a team as expected getting all the calls, with their best two players doing nothing offensively, in a championship series they still lead 2-1. Um ouch.

How can you miss that stolen base call?
There should be a penalty box for umpires that blow easy calls
you could throw rotten fruit at them for an inning or two…that’d be awesome
I don't know how popular I'll be here...
But I firmly believe that any replay system should include plays at bases like that. It’s not that hard; limit the number of challenges coaches could use, like in the NFL.
People say that it should only include home run plays, because “they have a direct impact on the game,” but getting rid of the lead-off base runner has a huge impact too. I think this whole replay debate is absurd.
i agree
somebody has to explain to me how - if they add replay - they’re going to avoid clusterfucks like if the batter keeps running and the defense stops playing because batter thinks it’s fair and defense thinks it’s foul
Yes, I should say that, which, I should say that.
Great pep talk Kranny gave Guthrie with the bases loaded
Maybe he said something like, “Just throw it down the middle of the plate. The worst that can happen is that we’re down 5-zip.”
I was kind of hoping that Guthrie would have a bigtime outing, to increase his ALl Star chances. That’s pretty much out of reach now.

True.
It just turns out those three or four times a year the Orioles actually win I’ve got something else to do. Like making NOT jokes, Borat.

You dudes spend an awful lot of time ragging on shit and then turtle up pretty easily. Speaking of which, I’m still waiting for an explanation as to how Jeremy Guthrie is “clearly” better than Jon Lester.
by Awesome Mike Awesome on Jun 13, 2008 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Because
how’s that? Because he doesn’t play in Boston, because he had a lower BAA, because he’s walked 12 less people in 8 more innings, because I like him better, because he’s not a cancer in the clubhouse.
I've got two nickels and a paradigm. - RWH
Wrong
Lester 18.1
Guthrie 14.8
Quite a swing after last night’s mess of an outing. But even if we take last night’s numbers, where Guthrie was ONE run ahead (due to pitching 8 more innings), he is STILL not “clearly” (your words, friend) a better pitcher, which is my bone of contention.

is the no. of no decisions between the two.

Where do I start?
1. Saying NOT predates Borat by about a decade. You can attribute its popularity to Mike Myers, comic genius.
2. Gee, I’m guessing you said “3 or 4 times a year” not realizing that we’ve already beaten you four times this year, Einstein. IN fact, you’re barely breaking .500 against us, with a record of 5-4.
Since this is a sub-thread about who shows up when, I’ll throw down right now and challenge you to put your money where your mouth is.
I’ll bet you a case of your choice of beer that the Orioles beat Boston at least once more this year. So you can either back up your petty little insult with some benjamins, or SYFP. Your choice.
32-13
over the last three years. I am certainly not going to bet with you since the Orioles will definitely win at least one more game, but they will most definitely suck.
And have you not seen Borat? He makes NOT jokes which shows that he is cluelessly out of touch because he’s from Kazakhstan. What’s your excuse?
by Awesome Mike Awesome on Jun 13, 2008 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions
My excuse is not having been hip enough to see Borat yet.
We actually got it on Nextflix. It’s been sitting in my DVD player for about a monht now.
See, I admit it when you’ve got me, which makes me a reasonable person.
But you? You’re all talk and no game, Mike. Now you’re saying we’re going to win at least five games against you this year, when above you said four.
So now you’re saying Boston will go 14-5 against us. Or is it more? Maybe next post you’ll say we win six.
Propose a bet. What do you want to say, 14-5? 13-6? 12-7? All of Camden Chat is watching. Are you afraid to actually lay something on the line other than your flapping jaw? If you won’t back up your words with something meaningful, then you’re just a coward.
C’mon, let’s see what you’re made of. It’ll be wicked awesome.
Well I'll tell you what, broseph
As wonderful as it is for you to think I’ll take the sucker’s bet as you focus on the particularities (3 or 4 wins a year) rather than the generalities (the Orioles suck), I’m not going to do that. I will say that if the Orioles finish within 15.5 games of the Sox, I will not only sponsor some jabroni ass $5 Oriole on baseball-reference, WITH an accompanying pro-Oriole message, I will also not visit this site the entire god damn offseason.
Now on the other hand, should the Orioles finish 16 or more games out, you will sponsor an equivalent Sox jabroni with some kind of pro-Sox message. You don’t have to do anything to correspond with me avoiding the site, because, let’s face it, you have to go through life an Oriole fan. That’s bad enough.

I'm not even sure what your point is
but, I guess, yes. Guthrie is not better than Lester. Lester is not better than Guthrie. Get over it.
by Awesome Mike Awesome on Jun 13, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions
well, that's kind of a sucker bet as well.
For one thing, we will likely be worse after the AL break than before, as we will dump more players. For another thing, you’re changing the parameters. The point was you said we’d only beat Boston 3-4 times this year. My point was, we already have. Then you said,
32-13
over the last three years. I am certainly not going to bet with you since the Orioles will definitely win at least one more game, but they will most definitely suck.
Changing the bet to one of how many games we finish back of you lets other teams into the equation….like all the teams that are better than Boston that actually do beat us regularly. E.g., Tampa Bay, who we are 3-8 against, and who actually scare me a lot more than Boston does right now.
No, the bet should be Boston vs. Baltimore, head-to-head. The stakes above are perfect. Let’s just figure out the terms. I mean, if the all-powerful Red Sox can’t beat us regularly in the season series (or close to it), I guess we can’t suck that much, right?
Well
I was clearly being facetious to make a larger point (the Orioles suck) which is absolutely true. So if you want me to say the Orioles may in fact win five games this year, I will. In fact, I already did. You clung to the 3-4 games thing because you’ve got nothing else going on re: the actual point.
The reason it’s a sucker’s bet is because the Orioles could get a little dribbler to beat Devern Hansack in September when the Sox have already clinched and there you are. Frankly I’d be fine with that because I’m a big picture guy, and in the big picture, the Orioles will as always be way the hell behind. I’d rather bet on something that matters.
It seems like it’s you who won’t stand behind your team’s ability to finish within 15 freakin games of first place, and for all the jabbering around here about how Pedroia sucks, Youkilis sucks, Beckett sucks, Lester sucks, etc., should really not be a problem, right? If the Red Sox are full of overrated players, the O’s should easily finish within 15, probably even single digits!
And do I need to remind you that the O’s are 13-32 against the Sox over the last three years? I think they handle them just fine thanks.

I know
and I feel for you. You would be a lot more tolerable with some of both.
by Awesome Mike Awesome on Jun 15, 2008 7:55 AM EDT up reply actions
oh, how presumptuous of you
the bet was within 15 games of the Red Sox, not 15 games of first place. the two are not the same thing at all.
Fine. So you were “clearly” being facetious. I don’t think it was “clear” at all, but that’s a separate argument in this thread.
If the Sox win 95 games or so (I guess it’s possible), the Orioles are going to have to play .500 ball for the rest of the year to stay within 15.5 games, despite an obvious upcoming talent dump for prospects in July. So, um, that’s a sucker bet for me.
Are you really such a pussy that you won’t bet on the Orioles-Sox head to head? How fucking lame of you, and how not surprising at the same time. I asked you to make a counter proposal of the Sox-Orioles season series record, and the only one you can come up with is one where you get other teams to help you out.
Okay, pussy. I’ll take your shitty bet, just for the POSSIBILITY that it might keep you away from CC for the offseason.
The bet is thus:
if the Orioles finish within 15.5 games of the Sox, [AMA] will not only sponsor some jabroni ass $5 Oriole on baseball-reference, WITH an accompanying pro-Oriole message, [he] will also not visit this site the entire god damn offseason. Now on the other hand, should the Orioles finish 16 or more games out [of the Sox], [zknower] will sponsor an equivalent Sox jabroni with some kind of pro-Sox message.
Agreed?
And SC, can we get another sidebar for this?
15.5 behind the Sox
and 15.5 behind first place is the same thing. And you don’t think the O’s can play .500 for three months!? Ha! I guess that says it all.

Why?
Why do I do this to myself? Why do I hope the O’s can win a series from the Sox?
Why is there war? Why can’t we just love one another?

P.S. I would enjoy seeing Manny and Youklis collide at full speed, head to head, going after a pop fly. Yes, I would enjoy that very very much. With Coco Crisp coming in for sloppy seconds.
I would prefer to see Manny, Youkilis and Crisp go 0-5 every game they play us

we get to play the Pirates tomorrow.
