So Senator Rosewater, who recently started posting on these very pages, calls me from BWI in a panic. An unfortunate mishap has led to his being stranded at the airport; can his boy save the day and run him back home. Hell, the game’s 6-1, Burres has blown yet another game…I can bail. Save my homie.

So what the fuck happened in between then and me tuning in for a score and hearing Fred Manfra say, “That’s for beating us in ‘79!”? Guts pinch running for Millar? 8 unanswered runs? Just too awesome. I don’t care that we played one of the perennially bad teams of the past 15 years. I am kinda mad I missed it.

And the unis? I would have loved to see the alternate orange pullovers. But the old-school button ups are baller as hell. And how much is that tight cartoon fitted, son?

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

The original hats had an orange button. You can see the guys sporting it in the above pic.

That’s a long time to be pissed off! Especially if you spent 1979 in utero, effigy, as a gleam in somebody’s eye or unmaterialized in any form in the cosmos. (On the other hand, there are longer waits a-waitin’: justice in the 1972 US-USSR Olympic basketball final, for example, remains to be done.)

Nice win-without-QS, Brian. Nice baserunning debut for Guts, too. (Can we maybe get him to try stealing—head first slides, right hand extended for extra contact with base, ground and possibly fielder’s spikes?)
