Ponson claimed by Yankees

I just heard on XM Radio that the Yankees claimed Sidney Ponson. Can't say that I really blame them. The dude is a total head case, but the Yankees are pretty desperate for pitching right now. I mean, if some other guy without the history with the O's was in the same situation, I might not be against the O's giving him a flier.

Here's to hoping he gets drunk and punches out Joe Girardi! That'd be a hoot.

Ponson in NY

Now thats a disaster waiting to happen, at least Hank will try and out shadow anything he does.

Nurturing clubhouse environment
Progressive, player friendly owner
Friendly local press
Fan base with realistic expectations
Not many ways to get into trouble in NYC itself

What could go wrong here? Seems like a good move to me.

This just gets better and better...

THey have Sidney and LaToya.
Next, they’ll sign Jay Gibbons and Russ Ortiz and that horrible relief pitcher with the porn star moustache we had last year (I’ve blanked it out, due to trauma).
Oh, this will be a great year.

Sorry to dig up that trauma...

But I think you’re referring to Paul Shuey. Boy was he a desperate grab, even on a minor league deal.

I can't wait to see this one play out

The Yankees sure love signing old, fat players.

Sydney Ponson is not old

He’s only 10 days older than I am.

Thats not old.

That better not be old.

Oh, shit…

Didn't they already do this?

I lost track of how many teams have taken a flier on him at this point.

Late '06

He was 0-1 with a 10 + ERA

Mentioned this in the game thread...

but bears repeating. My roommate is from NJ, and is a Yanks fan. Before I could break the news about his new pitcher, he read it on the ESPN news crawl and let out this choked, wheezing, panicked noise. It was perfect.

+1. The man never met a post-game buffet he didn't like.
