Should we reaquire Bedard? ...HA!
Jayson Stark had this to say:
Aceless in Seattle? Bill Bavasi got booted in Seattle as much for what he wouldn't do (fire his manager, trade his Opening Day starter) as for anything he did do. So the biggest initial impact of his firing is that it means Erik Bedard is now officially on the market.
The first order of business for interim GM Lee Pelekoudas, according to one rival exec, was to "call around, and give instructions to all his scouts, to quietly get the word out that they're open for business."
So what can the Mariners get for Bedard, who has damaged his reputation significantly by showing no interest in being a true No. 1 starter?
This really is the funniest things I've heard all day. Thank you Bill Bavasi! If it weren't for you, this Orioles team wouldn't have a better record then the Mariners, Tigers, and Indians. HA!
After hearing Bavasi's comments about Bedard's attitude I cannot be happier with the way things went for Andy MacPhail and our beloved Os this past off-season.

I wonder what's going on.
I haven’t been following it closely, but there was some speculation hat Bedard’s hip injury was more significant than the Mariner’s let on. Maybe it does bother him. I dunno. If it is still the hip, Bedard can’t come out and say much to quell any rumors. He’s then damaged goods.
I’m just glad it’s happening in Seattle. Face it, if things weren’t birdland so far this year, you’d expect this kind of stuff in Baltimore. I’m just glad it’s coming from somewhere else.

So, Bedard WASN'T a #1 starter when he was here?
Or do we not count as an MLB team anymore?

This is pure sportswriter bullshit of the first degree. What an idiotic thing to say.

I'd expect this from Jon Heyman
but not Jayson Stark. He’s typically better than this.

was that a quote from some unneamed AL executive?
I don’t think Stark said it, but he did include it in the story. It’s a small distinction.

No, that box is a direct quote from Stark's piece.
If it’s a quote from an exec, he gave no attribution. Sounds like that’s Stark’s thinking.

I’d like to see Bedard go all Angry Canadian on Bavasi and call him a hoser, eh.

The Mariners
should take a page from the Sonics and since Bedard didn’t work out they should sue the Orioles to try and reverse the trade.

Don't understand why this seems to be all Bedard's fault.
It’s not Eric’s fault that the Mariners are terrible. They would be terrible without Bedard, they are terrible with Bedard, and even if Bedard had pitched like Cliff Lee so far; the Mariners would be terrible. If Eric would have pitched 14 CG shutouts so far; with the Mariners winning each of them; they would still be a sub 500 team.
The problem isn’t how Bedard has pitched; the problem is trading away a bunch of young talented players; for one missing piece of the puzzle; when your missing a half dozen pieces already. It’s a problem we know all about.

The Indians DO have Cliff Lee, and they still stink. Bedard’s just one wheel in a broken machine.
