Loewen and Bierd +2... Who goes?
So if Loewen and Bierd are due to return soon, who's going to get knocked off the team?
Cormier's pitched pretty decently. Walker? Burres? Salazar/Cintron/Bynum? (the only one who I think merits the boot is Bynum...)
It's a pretty tough equation... while many guys on our team are expendable, none have really done anything so bad to warrant being replaced by someone else who isn't exactly an all-star. That being said, I think keeping Bierd is essential for us this year - he's probably going to develop into a pretty good pitcher.
What do ya think?

Salazar, probably.
I guess you could DFA Walker, too.
But that would hurt.

Bynum / Salazar / Cormier
Salazar has options available. Bynum…I was never sold on that guy to begin with. To hell with him. Cormier is Canadian, plus you can’t have 14 guys on staff.

Have until the begining of July, right?
Time to start thinking about trading somebody? Take a valuable piece and sell high. A few weeks from now, someone will likely be willing to overpay for Sherrill.

yeah, i dunno...
anybody know who’s in option years? i mean, johnson obviously is but having him up and pitching so well is a very good development for the system. bynum, cormier, burres and cintron may all have to clear waivers.
maybe macphail is already working on unloading walker and bradford. i dunno.

Someone will get hurt and go on the DL before then
If not, Salazar and Cormier are expendable.

Tough call
According to that article, Randor Bierd will be back July 17th at the earliest. It’d be nice if the O’s could trade Bradford or Walker by then, allowing Randor to take that spot. Walker might be tough to move considering, but Chad Bradford is having a pretty awesome year. I’m not one who has any idea what sort of player(s) you can get back for someone like ChadBrad, but I trust Andy.
As for Loewen, I have to think Cormier is the one to go. He has pitched pretty well, but he’s the odd man out. That or they’ll cut Salazar, which I think is a mistake.

I think Bierd stays on injury rehab as long as he's allowed
He’s out Rule V guy, and if he’s eligible for the 25 man and isn’t on it, we have to offer him back. Take a page out of the 1980s Redkins playbook and bury him on the injury list as long as is allowed. It’s basically stealing a roster spot. And I’m OK with that.

if we trade sherrill, which should only be done for a good prospect, can loewen close?

I think Johnson would get the nod for now
And there is still Chris Ray coming back at the end of the summer.

No trades for now
With the way the Os have played, 5.5 games out of the wild card spot, I doubt they’ll trade any of their veterans until they know they’re completely out of it. After all, teams that people were clamoring for this season are playing remarkably poorly.
Then again, what happens if they keep everybody? If they stay in contention until the end of the season like the Marlins did two seasons ago? Then, in the off season, you trade off your vets or get draft picks.

In light of recent developments...
Bukvich would be a good bet to go. I can’t see him sticking around for long.
