I'd never heard of McClung until I looked him up, and folks, we maybe running into a show stopper here. From Yahoo! Sports:

A former American Leaguer, Seth McClung (4-3, 3.94) starts against the Orioles for the sixth time in his career. In his first five starts - all with Tampa Bay - McClung went 3-2 with a 6.39 ERA, walking 24 in 25 1-3 innings.

The right-hander has pitched much better since moving from a long relief role into the rotation for Milwaukee, going 3-2 with a 4.23 ERA in five starts. He limited Minnesota to two runs and four hits over six innings Sunday in a 4-2 victory.

McClung has pitched six innings in each of his last three starts, giving up a total of five earned runs with 13 strikeouts against one walk.

If the Orioles can beat this kid, they've done something. This ain't no "Latest Rookie We Turn Into Cy Young" game here - this is a good pitcher who's put up Quality Starts in his last 3 outings.

One last note: With a crowd of about 30,000 today, 1 million fans will have seen the Orioles play this year. And most still think Terry Crowley needs to be replaced.

Let's Go O's!

Dammit

Stupid google images search. I’ll fix it.

More Notes

Jay Payton is definitely not Birdland. He’s not Birdland because every time Shutdown comes in and gets a save he is the only member of the team that doesn’t flip up his brim. Just watch the next time Shutdown gets a save. This is just another reason why I can’t stand Jay Payton.

Aubrey Huff had a huge game last night going 4-5 with 2 HR’s and 3 RBI’s. It was the 7th 2-HR game of his career. Right now Huff has 14 jacks on the year and seven have either tied the game or given us the lead (5 have given us the lead and 2 have been game tying HR’s). Don’t quote me on this but, I think I might be starting to like Audrey.

The O’s bullpen pitched 7.0 scoreless innings last night. The pen has not allowed an earned run in their last 14.1 IP (2 Unearned Runs).

The O’s have homered in seven straight games and have 14 homers in those seven games. We are one of four teams in the majors with five or more players that have 10 or more home runs. The other teams include the Brewers, Marlins, and Pink Cap Nation.

So far the O’s are 12-6 in June with 9 games to play. We are only 4 wins away from 16. The last time we won 16 games in June was 1994 when we went 16-10.

Draft Update: The O’s have agreed to terms with 27 of their 50 draft picks, including CF- Xavier Avery (2nd Round), 2B- LJ Hoes (3rd Round), CF- Kyle Hudson (4th Round), LHP- Richard Zagone (6th Round), C- Caleb Joseph (7th Round), and LHP- Nicholas Haughian (9th Round). Our first round pick LHP- Brian Matusz out of the University of San Diego is still yet to sign

Countdown: BRob- 1,000 Hits: 5 Hits Away

to copy and paste from Press Pass from MLB.com, I’d be a happy guy. That’s an awful lot of typing! Thanks!

That doesn;’t just strike FEAR in your heart?

Why, Ramon gets a hit at least once a week!

Adam Jones, son, he don’t bunt – he’s coming AFTER those curve balls in the dirt and on his hands!

And Freddy hit 2 HR last year! They went over the wall and everything!

Danny? I got nothing. Dude’s 0 for 9 with 9 Ks in his career. Ouch.

I tried to talk my wife into naming our kids Tax Deduction 1 and Tax Deduction 2. I’m not real good with names.

Yeah, I said the same thing

McClung is/was awful.

He was a shitty starter, then a shitty closer, then a shitty mop-up guy.

I laughed when I saw he was with the brew crew.

3 QS in a row, dude

He’s found SOMETHING in Milwaukee, and it ain’t just watered down beer.

O's have best record in AL for June thus far

If PHN loses today (it looks promising) not only will the O’s be just 4 back in the loss column in the AL East, they have the best record in the AL for the month of June, starting the night 12-6. Even if things don’t go our way tonight, barring a PHN comeback, we will be tied for the best record in the AL in June.

Wow. Imagines next year when Andy MacPhail has ANOTHER winter to work with (albeit with lesser talent…)

but, Peter Angelos has a shit ton of money.

I think Andy could buy himself some good young free agents if he wanted.

Harder and harder to come by

Everyone’s locking up the Evan Longorias of the world with contracts before they even hit arbitration. Just like every team in the NFL learned by 2000 to lock up your young talent, MLB teams are doing the same thing now.

FA can patch a hole, but rebuild a lineup or a staff? Not so much anymore.

Throwing the 4 seam instead of the 2 seam?

The 2 moves. The 4 doesn’t.

by elk on Jun 21, 2008 7:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i think

word has gotten around the league that he’s only throwing fastballs, and so batters are being more patient, meaning 1) he walks more people, and then 2) they get a hitter’s count and sit dead red on something right over the plate

by zknower on Jun 21, 2008 7:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Which made that kinda-sorta changeup he just threw

that much more devastating.

I don’t think he looks that bad yet today…sure a couple of doink hits, a lucky hit and run, a few good hits…but overall he seems okay so far.

too bad he was safe. Huff made a pretty good play for a overweight 3B who plays the position once every 2 weeks at most. Damn good try, Aubrey.
