NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
"We may do something to get another shortstop," Trembley said. "I think it's a little far-fetched to think that I'm going to put Melvin [Mora] over there. I could double-switch and put him over there for the last three innings or something. But to be perfectly honest with you, I wanted to keep Salazar. They are starting two lefties against us and then I think after that, we might do something."
At this point, it appears that Brandon Fahey is the most likely candidate to get added to the roster. Fahey is hitting .280 in 42 games for Triple-A Norfolk and started the season on the Orioles' Opening Day roster, going 5-for-25 (.200).

Someone out there has to have a decent SS being blocked, right?

Don't the Rockies have like 15 shortstops now that Tulowitzki is back?
I know how bad SC wants us to get Barmes.

maybe jeff reboulet wants to make a comeback?
cause i’ll take him over fahey. figures we do a poll on who infuriates us the most and the leading vote getter is the one they’re planning on bringing back…

I saw a guy at OPACY
on Thursday wearing an orange cutoff tee. He had written on the back with a thick black marker, “REBOULET 36”. It was the most awesome shirsey I’ve ever seen.

Fahey - Bynum - Fahey - Bynum
What’s the difference? So Fahey will bring his .231 OBP and .240 SLG back to the big leagues. Neither one is particularly stellar in the field.
It would be interesting to see how the O’s 2008 SS position stacks up in all time futility. It’s painful to watch, but it’s not like we didn’t know to expect it.

From last night's game thread
Per baseball-reference.com…
Our SS line for 2008: .233/.274/.280. It’d be hard to do much worse.

I have to figure Belanger is a good place to start
I just looked at his stats, and the worst season, counting only those when he played 100 or more games, was ‘79.
BA: .167 OBP: .273 SLG: .217 OPS+: 36

well
He only had 198 at-bats that year and only started 54 games at shortstop.

is David Newhan available...
I don’t care if he’s not a SS. He’s GOT to be better than Fahey.

OK
I like Newhan. If it wasn’t for that bum leg, we might have resigned him.

Me too!!!
I championed Newhan after that great 2nd half he had as a FT player. Of course he followed that up by sucking. I do hold a slight grudge that I drove 13 hours to Atlanta with a Braves friend to watch interleague and fatass Andruw Jones hit a walkoff to left that just cleared the fence and would have been a really close play with Larry Bigbie in LF but he had been lifted for a PH and wee man Newhan was out there.

Newhan sucks and he's a baby
He had 85 at-bats where he hit like Rogers Hornsby. Other than that he was replacement level at his very best. Then he whined about how he didn’t get to play much, as if he deserved it for having a fluke hot streak to end all fluke hot streaks and then failing to hit after that. Newhan’s 35 in September. He’s a guy that hits at AAA and then farts out in the majors. That’s the story of his career.

he's in the houston organization now
he seemed kinda bitter about the o’s when i met him in new orleans last year though. it was the day after we got murdered by texas and he saw i was wearing an o’s tee so he said something to the effect of “wow, pretty rough game, huh?” with a bit of a smirk. to which i replied “yea, guess you’re glad you arent up there anymore huh?”. i felt bad after that.

Shortstop
I think they will bring back Fahey,he was the best defensive s.s. since Cal.
he cant hit much but he,s better then Luis Hernandez & Bynum. I feel
they may keep Cintron as a backup.

really?
i think i’d take mike bordick, personally…

whoa
Really? Really really really? Rag arm Fahey whose range is that of a passable second baseman is the best defensive SS since Cal? Not Mike freakin Bordick, who was pretty awesome?
