O's 11, Cubs 4: Dag, yo
via d.yimg.com
Chicago Cubs, meet your father. Your father is Aubrey Huff.
Who's today's.........GOAT??? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
We're the only team besides Milwaukee to win a series at Wrigley this year. (I think I heard that right, anyway.)
Fun afternoon game. The bats came alive, Totally Rad Liz gave us six strong, we rocked Marquis, and Burres got back in there with an inning of relief (3 H, 1 ER). I've heard Burres knows how to step it up. I wish he'd use this knowledge to his advantage.
The WGN play of the game was the first pitch, so you know it was a good game for the other team.

Great Win Today
I think that’s the most relaxed I’ve ever been while watching the O’s. Great game by Huff N Stuff. I think I’m starting to like him.
Now it’s on to D.C. for the Battle of the Beltway. Let’s kick their fucking ass!

Just saw the highlights on SportsCenter...
Jeez, we annihilated them! Great to see Liz have a solid performance, although when your offense scores 11, it makes things much easier.

When Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella saw his interleague schedule, he was relieved. The Cubs were matched up against the American League East this season, but didn’t draw the Yankees or the Red Sox . Turns out, he should’ve been worried about the Rays and the Orioles.
‘I thought maybe we caught a break,’’ Piniella said. ’’But this was before we played Tampa Bay and Baltimore.’‘

That might just be
the quote that’s made me the happiest this season.
” ‘I thought maybe we caught a break,’’ Piniella said. ’’But this was before we played Tampa Bay and Baltimore.”
DAMN STRAIGHT. Welcome to Birdland, mofo.

hey lou,
Did you not read Adam Jones’ quote in Stacey’s sign before the series?

That makes me happy, too.
“We’re not concerned about what other teams think. I know teams come in here thinking we’re playing the Orioles. And then 9 innings later, they got the loss, they know what we’re about.” ~Adam Jones

I really think we should join forces with the rays
and make a SUPERteam! I want to dislike them (they are in our division and all), but i cant seem to do it. so i propose we join forces and become one ultra dominant team. i figure if the sox and yanks can be the same team, why cant we?

why would they rays want anything to do with the O's
They’re almost a superteam already, all by themselves. We’d just be dead weight.

that's what I was thinking
I think I’ve read that the Rays still have something like a dozen or so of the top 100 prospects.

Just back from the game
It was awesome. SO awesome. I love this freaking team. I’ll write more about it later. Right now I’m drunk and tired. Two things:
1) Before the game I was walking through the upper deck to get a beer and Jim Palmer walked right past me! I said, “Hey Jim Palmer!” and he gave me a wave but did not slow down. It was cool.
2) There were a LOT of O’s fans there. I was surprised. Orange peppered the entire stadium. The O during the anthem was pretty healthy.

And another NPL team bites the dust. The, er, Mighty Cubs. Psheee-it.
What a league. Look at the IL results this year. Hell, look at today’s—6-0 (so far) is not a fluke. This farce has got to stop.
I’m all for IL play. But next year, Dimbulb Bud, please schedule the AL vs. the Japanese Central League. We need some competition.

I'm all for that
Take two months where both the Japanese League and MLB play regular season baseball. Have a dedicated site in Hawaii or something. Every weekend, a new team plays a japanese team for one series.

that would be kind of rad.

I read a book about Japanese baseball
Exciting stuff! I wish there was an Extra Innings package for that.

I'm not too knowledgeable
but it seems like there is a big difference between the “japanese swing” and the “american swing.” I mean I guess there have to be Americans who swing like that, but I aint seen them.
They swing totally from the body though with a huge follow through…I definitely can’t think of any Japanese sluggers off the top of my head…

not to mention
the way they seem to all pull out of the box (lefties) to get a “head start” down the line. How do the cover the outside corner?

also...
i don’t know if it’s a function of small sample set, but how often do you see japanese pitchers over here that have “unorthodox deliveries”?
