Gameday Thread: O's (28-30) @ Twins (31-28)

Baltimore Orioles @ Minnesota Twins

Game time is an absurd 1:10 on MASN.

“I’m just trying to do things to help the team win,” Mauer said.

Isn't he so humble! It's like he doesn't know how good he is! What a guy! What a team player!

I'll fight you, Joe Mauer.

Today's Starting Pitchers GS IP ERA WHIP BAA HR BB K W-L
Garrett Olson - LH 7 38.0 4.03 1.42 .264 3 15 31 4-1
Scott Baker - RH 6 33.0 4.09 1.09 .244 6 5 29 2-0

Scott Baker's coming back from a short DL stint. He last took the mound on May 3. Olson is left-handed! Olson's WHIP isn't as good as Baker's. Baker has a nice K-to-BB. I'd like to get some of that action.

A partial list of Minnesota Twins I want to punch in the face:

  1. Joe Mauer
  2. Nick Punto
  3. Alexi Casilla
  4. Carlos Gomez

So Mauer was sitting on the bus

behind Nuke and Crash when Crash taught Nuke to say meaningless pap in post-game interviews. Probably someone’s on a minor league bus teaching Matt Weiters to say those lines right now. I wish someone had taught Audrey to talk that line.

You won't see a worse play than the one you just saw from the Yankee captain... 3DG 5/27/08

Oh, and interesting factoid...

Kevin Millar has 10 HRs… but only 5 doubles. How the hell does that happen? (HE’S SLOW.)

Also – non-QS for Cabs … 9-4

Orioles Strategizing

So Olson has a 1.42 WHIP and a 4.03 ERA, while Baker is 1.09 WHIP and 4.09 ERA? I’d have to say Olson knows how to bear down when he’s in trouble and get that out. Limit the damage. Kid has moxie! Baker is just prone to giving up the timely hit. No guts. Kid needs to learn how to bear down and concentrate more and probably not give up the untimely home run. Give me a tough kid like Olson any day of the year! Plus he’s a lefty.

Oops, forgot the Sidline from Wednesday's SidWatch:

IP H R ER BB K HR ERA
4.0 8 6 2 3 1 1 3.88

If this were SC vs. Z on Daniel, it’d be a push (no decision, no QS, no nuthin’, pretty much).
Sid’s All Star prospects are dimming. Still, there’s no “Judges punched” line in the box.

Twins' strategy is clear after one inning:

Let the O’s batters get on base, then try to pick them off. It’s easier than shooting fish in a barrel.

Why is Gameday Audio now making me watch a commercial

before I can listen to the game?

I pay money for this. I want the game NOW.

pretty soon

they’ll make you watch commercials before you can go to your local little league park in which the teams aren’t even wearing mlb teams uni’s because they cost too much money.

That was one of the worst at bats

I’ve seen from AJ all year.

Hopefully a fluke, he’s been looking much better lately.

I’ve got the espn gamecast up. It’s super lame.

And the Royals have taken Hosmer. This is the worst scenario but the predictable one for the O’s. They have to choose between Smoak and Matusz. O’s on the clock.

From ESPN

Probably the fastest moving starter in the draft. The Orioles have to consider moving him quickly through the system. He has about four average or better pitches. Not a ton of projection here; he is today what he’s going to be three or four years from now. His offspeed stuff is so good that he’ll miss a lot of bats in the low minors and not have a chance to work on fastball command.

"We might as well just win this game." -Adam Jones

by exitfare on Jun 5, 2008 2:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah that is what I get from what I have seen too

He has three very good pitches, and his slider is ok. He has a 95 mph fastball, a great off speed ball with movement and a curve ball that really breaks. I believe his fourth pitch is a slider but I haven’t seen it much and I don’t think he will use it much until it is fully developed. He was a top pitcher in high school, top pitcher in college, and he just translates to be a solid guy in the majors. He hasn’t received much hype because he has been good for so long and is just projected to be a no. 2-3 starter for a long time.
