something bad happened?
Good thing I was watching the swimming trials with my daughter, then watched nothing more.
Maybe the law of averages are catching up with George. Maybe the number of pitches is catching up with him. Maybe it’s all of the above. That dead arm episode a week or so back is still lurking in the background. This bullpen is starting to have a slight whiff of the past, I dunno, 10 years?

So my kids weren't the only ones
watching the swimming trials. Good to know.

oh yeah
And you aren’t the only one at the seemingly interminable meets on Saturday AND Sunday.

No, our interminable long meets
were Thursday and last night.
Dude, I coached wrestling. Wrestling tournaments make 5-hour swim meets look like a 20-minute lunch hour. Try 8:30 weigh-ins (at a school 90 minutes away from home), start wrestlinjg at 9:30 and end finals with your heavyweight at 9:30 that night and that 90 minute ride home. And that’s after you did 9 hours the day before. Trust me, it could be worse – you could be a wrestling parent.

Comparing kids' wrestling to pro wrestling
is just, well, irrelevant. My main point is the time committment required of various youth sports. Go with soccer – shortest time committment I’ve seen in all the sports we’ve done. Of course, I never had to worry about travel team tournaments…
And for the record, Ric Flair’s kid Reid was a starter at Blair Academy for a while, one of the top 10 HS prep programs in the nation. Ric actually got one of his suspensions from WCW for attending a tournament instead of working a show back before WCW folded.

Oh, Uncle Eric didn't like that one
Even when Flair came back he was jobbed out for the next 6 months to guys like Horace Hogan, Hugh Morris & Scot Norton. Not good.

yeah but he liked Norton
So I don’t think that bothered him too much.
I guess Reid turned out to be kind of a pud. But he’s no Nasty Nick Hogan.

He was a good HS wrestler
just not great, and certainly wasn’t gonna last long in Blair’s starting lineup. They’re the best HS team east of Ohio you will find.

Send Buttkiss back to the minors
And bring up someone who is not instant lighter fluid.
His “relief” of Burres gave the Royals the momentum they needed.

I prefer "Bupkis"
‘cause that’s what we’re getting out of him. Zero.

Cripes, is it time to let Markakis pitch yet? He would be what-- worse?
Let Fahey play third base—actually, even better, let Fahey be thrid base, play Huff there and leave Kevbo at 1st. Markakis’ new position is RF-Closer.
Two piece o’ cheet give-away games in a row should engender radical short-term solutions. We gotta get outta this Zone before the 2-12 thing really descends for good and all.
Granted, this Stunning Mediocrity thing we’ve had to date has propelled us so far beyond our collective ‘08 expectations that now it’s hard to give up on the notion that somehow, some way we’ve already arrived at LEGITIMATE semi-competence. Which we haven’t, of course.
On the other hand, and with apologies to G. Orwell, some mediocrities are more mediocre than others. I was really getting to dig ours, thinking really ludicrous stuff like “82 wins? Could happen.” Ever notice how certain cool ideas you get when you’re really drunk become, in the cold light of day, just SO MUCH BETTER?
Nick, get warm in the 8th. Go O’s.

You're on level 3, dude...
Larry Miller’s 5 levels of drinking.
“You have drinking fantasies, like ‘If we bought a bar, we could live together forever!’ “
Same think for Markakis pitching, dude.

Caught it on XM the other day and it just happened to be fresh in my mind when I saw your post. YouTube is a beautiful thing.
