Need some suggestions
My wife and I are flying in tomorrow on a quick two day stop before driving on to PA to visit family. We will be attending the Wednesday and Thursday games. I asked a while back and saved most of those suggestions but thought I'd ask again just to make sure. Any suggestions on places to eat and drink around the ballpark that we need to check out? Nothing too touristy. We also thought about heading over to Fells Point one night as well. We are staying at the Marriott by the ballpark I believe.
Thanks everyone.

Maryland Sports Legends museum
a definite must. And the Babe Ruth Museum. Both are near the stadium.

Fells Point
theres a place i always go when i’m down in bmore in fells point that has something like 100 beers on tap. its awesome, but i cant for the life of me think of the name of it off the top of my head. i’m sure someone who lives down there on this site should be able to think of it…

Are you thinking of Max's on Broadway?

Save room in that Okie belly
for some real good Bog’s Barbecue.
No trip to OPACY is complete without a huge sandwich and some awesome potato salad.

That should have been Boog's!
I got so hungry just typing it that I forgot how to spell his name!

No doubt
we’ll have some BBQ but I have to say that, right or wrong, a big part of our summers in OK and TX revolve around the smoker. I have a hard time imagining that I haven’t already eaten some of the best BBQ I’m ever going to eat. Not to mention a trip to Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis for a little different BBQ (dry rub) than most of what we have west of the mississippi. I’m game though.

No offense to elktonfan or Boog himself
But I don’t really think it’s the all that great as far as pit beef goes. It’s good, but it’s not awesome. It’s more of touristy pit beef, if there is such a thing. The best pit beef is usually found on various stands on the side of the road. They have an awesome pit beef at the farmer’s market under the JFX on Sundays.

Yeah, I mentioned pit beef in the last BPinOK post
BPinOK, pit beef isn’t anything like the BBQ you are thinking of. It’s beef with a rub, grilled until it is crusty on the outside, rare in the inside (I told you it isn’t BBQ). It’s thinly sliced and heaped on a kaiser roll (maybe rye) with generous horseradish and tomato.
Are there any other good places in the city near the Marriott? All the places I know tend to be outside the inner city.

It's gotta be a kaiser roll
Who eats pulled pork or pulled beef on rye? That’s just wrong.

Even beef...
who eats that with RYE? Seriously? Unless you’re getting a Reuben, when is rye bread ever your first choice?

Rye is good
with roast beef. Just lettuce & a little tomato. NO mustard.
Mustard is OK for hot dogs, not roast beef. Just like ketchup is OK for burgers, not steak.

mmmm don't forget the onion!
onion and lots of horseradish and just a sprinkle of bbq sauce.
I don’t know of any places right downtown with good pit beef. I know a few good places over on the east side, like Essex, but not really easy to get to if you’re an out of towner. I’ve passed a place right off of Greene a couple times (Maybe Lexington or Fayette?) that looks like it has pit beef but I’ve never been there.

Oh yeah. Because I do not like raw onions, I always leave them out.
But they are a traditional condiment.

Best moves
Near the ballpark are either of the nearby City Markets -
Lexington Market has the famed Faidley’s Crabcakes, which are pretty damn good. There is no seating there, people eat standing up at tables, but if you need to sit you could always either sit elsewhere in the market or, do what I do and just take them down to the ballpark and eat them on the tables they have set up on the Upper Level.
Cross Street Market, in Federal Hill, has Nick’s seafood which is a fine, fine place to eat steamed shrimp and drink some beers before a game.
Both are within walking distance to the stadium, both are local/anti-touristy as hell, both have kickass seafood, and both offer many other options for food as well. Cross Street Market is in a better area though, and is surrounded by the Federal Hill bar district. Lexington is the largest market in the city – and I’ve read the largest food market in the world, but who knows – and has some other Baltimore mainstays like Pollock Johnny’s polish sausage and Berger cookies from Berger’s bakery.
If you’re looking for anything in specific, let me know and I’ll try to help.

I’m game for as long as my wife can hang. She’s on a 9 month designated driver program no thanks to me so we’re at the mercy of her energy level at this point. We’re game to do some walking though.

Does Faidley's still use MD crabs
or switch to the SE Asian stuff like Phillips’ did?

Last I heard it was "Atlantic" crab.
From packing houses in MD in the summer and from NC or FL during the winter.
My “inside scoop” is a family member in the food business. I’ll have to ask him again when I’m back home in August. Things do change.

I was seriously depressed
when Phillips went away from MD crab. If they’re still using Atlantic seaboard crabs, that’s still a plus, even if it isn’t exclusively MD.

Phillips went to SE Asian crabs
more than a decade ago. Sorry I had to be the one to break the bad news to ya.

Yeah, it's where tourists go, that for sure
Take Jonny Pop’s recommendation on seafood. Me? I either catch it myself (every couple of years at most) or buy it from a local seafood place, where I know the wholesalers they get it from are from Crisfield and Deal Island, 40 minutes away.

ugh...
i mean, i haven’t been in years (favor more the mom and pop joints, myself), but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing!
i really can’t remember the name of the place, but there was this place we used to stop on the way back from a friend of the family’s in southern md and i’d always get the fried softshell sammie, doused fries and a nutty buddy for dessert. delicious.

Southern MD's got good seafood too
as much as we Eastern Shore types hate to admit it. Ain’t much difference between Charles and Wicomico counties, in a lot of ways…

I thought
That marriott right next to W. Camden St. opened in August?
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

There's a Marriot close to Camden Yards
The new hotel opening right next to the stadium is a Hilton
