Gameday Thread: Royals (38-45) @ O's (41-40)
Kansas City @ Baltimore
Uh ohhhh. Slow death march to .500 and beyond?

Today's Starting Pitchers GS IP ERA WHIP BAA HR BB K W-L Luke Hochevar - RH - #44 13 78.1 4.60 1.51 .271 8 36 48 5-5 Radhames Liz - RH - #62 5 23.2 5.70 1.39 .230 4 13 18 2-0
Liz has really only pitched poorly in one game (6/20 @ MIL). He's also amazingly allowed exactly four hits in every single start. Hochevar had a nice eight-inning outing against the Rockies last time out, but the defending NL champs are 19 games under .500, so big deal.

I just realized
Liz’s BAA is .230. That’s not half bad.
That’s all.
by Dr Orpheus on Jul 1, 2008 4:37 PM EDT 0 recs
His ERA is largely a result of that one terrible start. The rest of his starts have been fine, exactly what you could expect from a guy in his position in the best case. His WHIP is good, his K-rate is good. He could stand to cut down the walks, obviously.

I thought Danny was pitching tonight...
but, hey, it’s Rad. Time to rearrange some fantasy line-ups, then.
by getxstoked on Jul 1, 2008 4:50 PM EDT 0 recs
Goal for Rad: Pitch at least 6 innings
Obviously walking less would help that along. He’s only pitched 6 innings in one of his starts (Pittsburgh). Liz, Olson, and Burres all need to step it up in the innings pitched department.

Looking forward to it.
Going to the game tonight. Will be excited to see Liz pitch in person.

When he's on, he's something
Went to teh PIT game, and his stuff was good. At least, what I could tell from 200 feet away or so…

Golden opportunity for Liz
The Royals probably have the worst offense in the AL. They are tied for 12th in runs scored despite playing in a hitters park.
They are last in the AL in walks.
They hit RHP even worse than they hit LHP (693 OPS vs RHP, 749 OPS vs LHP).
Their best hitter (DeJesus) is out due to injury. He’s also the Royals best hitter vs RHP (885 OPS).
I’d really like to see Rad dominate here. I hope I didn’t just jinx him.

And they may continue their winning ways...
Hochevar can be nasty when he’s on.
But that doesn’t mean that Liz shouldn’t shred this lineup.

that game against the cubs...
he was really dropping some ridiculous changeups. i think duck and i were talking about one at bat versus derek lee where he threw a 94 mph heater than, like, an 83 mph changeup for the whiff-k. it was pretty sweet.

I mean, 93, 94, 84. Lee had no chance.

just sayin'
This is interesting.
My 17-year old cat, Normandie, has just told me she’d be happy to play shortstop for the Orioles, in return for a case of catnip and some yarn to play with. Oh, and someone has to buy her a very small glove.
Does anyone have a number for The Warehouse?

17 is pretty old
We’re trying to get younger, zk, younger! Besides, I already got an try out for my cat. They like that she’s a local cat, they think it’ll help with hometown pride. Plus she’s already got orange, black, and white fur. It’s a perfect fit.

How dumb is Dempsey?
His miid-season grades:
Starting Pitchers: C-
Bullpen: A
Offense: A+ (I’m not kidding.)
I can’t even find words to describe how stupid this is. And I thought “I’ll domestically violate him” was as bad as he could get. I was wrong.
