1 problem with the orioles
While it seems like maybe the O's are finally going into the tank, there seems to be one big problem that has killed the o's (other then sundays). Even with a good bullpen the Orioles cant be a good team if most of there pitchers can only go 5 innings. While Guthrie and Cabrera average 6 and a half innings. While the other three in the rotation, Olson, Burress, and Liz go about 5 innings each game. Most likely this is because they are younger pitcher, but if the bullpen has to pitch 4 innings every three days then we should expect that all of the sudden they are going to blow up. I feel that in september we should dip down into AAA and see if any of those guys can go more then 5 innings. Also why are Castillo and Aquino up instead of Rocky Cherry and Scott Moore?

Not sure why Cherry isn’t in the bullpen, but Scott Moore doesn’t pitch. :)
You are correct on how 3/5 of our rotation having an inability to get past the 6th inning (and most days, out of the 5th) is having a devastating effect on the bullpen.

Scott Moore just started hitting. He was kind of bad before then. Same goes for Cherry. Castillo and Aquino had been doing better then Cherry for longer.

Guthrie and Cabrera could also pitch longer in games if they weren’t taken out in the sixth after they reach 100 pitches.
Moore was putrid most of the season and just started hitting.
Cherry should be in good shape to come up at some point.

Burres went to talk to Trembley after he got pulled early in his last outing
Trembley told him that if he wants to stay in a game, he has to get lefties out and he also has to pitch deeper into games if he doesn’t want to get pulled early.
And that’s today’s MOMENT OF ZEN.

randor...
does everyone figure he’s getting called up for the detroit series? he’s pitched in 12 games now since coming off the DL.

So, who goes?
Yep, RANDOOOOOR! seems a likely bet to be recalled soon. Barring any trades, the three fringe guys in the ‘pen right now are Fernando Cabrera, Alberto Castillo, and Greg Aquino. The first two haven’t been scored on in the few games they’ve pitched. I watched Castillo pitch a pretty impressive 1-2-3 inning of mop-up duty in the 12-1 loss to the Sawx. Aquino, OTOH, has been scored upon in two of three appearances in his second go-round in the majors this year. I guess he’d be my choice to go.

that'd be my guess...
i think, barring an implosion at norfolk, kam mickolio is next in the queue…maybe when bradford or sherrill go. i guess we’ll see rocky cherry at some point, but if they were dying to get him into the mix, we surely would have seen him by now.
