Going to O's Yankees Series in New York

                    O's @ Yankees July 28-30

1288409827_40f1509b0a_medium

I posted this about a month ago but I wanted to post a newer version now that it's less than 2 weeks away from the series. I'm flying up to New York from New Orleans with a friend of mine (My Dad was suppose to come but he's not going to be able to make it) for the O's Yankees series on July 28-30. I wanted to see if there were any CCers in the New York area that are going to be going to the game and would like to meet up. We'll be sitting in Section 57 of the bleachers right by the Orioles bullpen for both the Monday and Tuesday night games. It would be great if we could get a bunch of O's fans to pack Yankee Stadium just like the Yankees do when they come to our place. I also have 2 tickets for the Sunday game that I'm not going to be using because our flight leaves at 6 and if I went to the game that would be cutting it to close. So if anybody would like to use them just let me know, they are also in Section 57 of the Bleachers.  Just give me a call on my cell (504)-875-7007 if you want to meet up. I can't wait, I'm literally counting down the hours until we leave!

Have fun!

I’ll be at Yankee Stadium on Sept 20th (2nd to last home game) vs. the O’s.

That's awesome

I wish I could go to that series. To bad I have classes in Sept.

You could have just updated the original post

and checked the box (right above publish, I believe) that says to update date and time. It would have been moved to the top like it was brand new.

Just a little pointer.

Prepare for some abuse from the bleacher creatures

Despite the fact that the bleachers are alcohol free, it gets pretty rowdy out there.

There’s no hope of having any kind of Oriole fan presence at Yankee Stadium. Best case is outnumbered 50-1. I saw only a handful of O’s fans at a game earlier this season.

I have tickets to the game on Monday the 28th, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it.

If you go

you should give me a call and we can meet up.

i didn't have any problems

I went to Yankee Stadium last season, the game Bedard threw his 200th strikout of the season. I wore my Orioles hat, and only received two comments all day and they weren’t bad. It was a come from behind win for the O’s too. I stood up and cheered a few times and nobody said anything. Yankees fans are really great as long as you don’t act like a jerk (in which case you deserve the abuse).

by edsachs1 on Jul 16, 2008 3:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Where did you sit?

I’ve gone to plenty of Yankees-O’s games at Yankee Stadium and I’ve never had any issues aside from friendly ribbing.

But the bleachers are a different story. The last time I sat there was for a random Yankees-Mariners game. I wasn’t openly rooting for either team, but there was a 10 or 12 yo kid wearing Mariners gear that got yelled at and insulted all game long. It’s not going to be violent or anything, but it’s annoying/unpleasant.

by dkdc on Jul 16, 2008 4:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My uncle works in NYC and was able to get me really good seats. So that may explain it. But I still expected to hear comments after the game while walking outside the stadium. All I heard was one guy say “Oh well your still in last place” (and that was after one of their fans, an O’s fan, gave us a high five).

My cousin sat in the bleachers during another game. He said it wasn’t much worse. I think his friend got peanuts dumped on him, when he cheered after the O’s scored (but I imagine he was asking for it).

I guess my only advice is, don’t act like a dick and yankees fans probably won’t either.

by edsachs1 on Jul 17, 2008 3:42 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

I don’t plan on acting like a dick. I just want to go root on my O’s and see the old stadium one last time. I’m not trying to get into any fights.

ummmm

hey, i’m happy you had a good experience, but yankee fans are definitely NOT great. I guess I go to more O’s games at yankee stadium then the average O’s fan, but they are generally dicks without provocation.

Is it okay to bring a book bag in with you?

I’m going to have my small skateboard and I wanted to put in a book bag.

Not sure

6 or 7 years ago I was denied entry with a medium-sized duffel bag. The cops directed me to a local bar that was checking bags so I was still able to get in to see the game.

I’m pretty sure that was in October of 2001, so their rules may have changed since then. There should be info on their website, or a number you can call.

From the orioles.com site
Oriole Park at Camden Yards, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, has established the following security procedures for entrance into the ballpark:

* No hard-sided coolers, thermoses, glass bottles, cans or alcoholic beverages are permitted into the ballpark. You must leave these items in your vehicle before entering the ballpark.

* Non-alcoholic beverages in plastic bottles are permitted into the park. All items will be checked at the gates and any beverage which has been opened or partially consumed prior to entry is subject to confiscation if it is thought to contain alcohol. In addition, no plastic or paper cups of beverages are permitted into the park at the entry gates.

* All items permitted into the ballpark will be inspected. No bags or items exceeding the maximum size of 16” x 16” x 8” are allowed into the ballpark. Permitted items must easily fit into a 16” x 16” x 8” container.

* No containers or unauthorized items can be left at any park entrance. You will be asked to return them to your vehicle.

* No re-entry will be permitted. Once you enter the ballpark, you will not be permitted to leave and re-enter the facility. Please make sure you have everything you need with you before entering the ballpark.

* Only vehicles dropping off or picking up guests with disabilities are permitted to stop curbside at the ballpark. No other vehicles are permitted curbside, nor will people be able to stand and wait with their vehicles.

I'm assuming

the Yankees would have similar policies.

Yeah I just read the Yankees policies

and they’re pretty much the same as the O’s.

I'm there

I’m going up on Monday with my brother and father to catch that night’s game. We’re in section 41 in the bleachers in deep Right-Center.

No beer in the bleachers? Surely you jest.

Not only that

But if you’re in the bleachers you can’t go to the rest of the stadium. It’s totally separate.

Dumbest rule EVER

OK, maybe not THE dumbest rule ever, but pretty dumb. I wanted to go see the monuments before a game. No can do from bleacher seats. I wanted to just walk the concourse and see the rest of the stadium. No can do with bleacher seats. No wonder they’re so testy, they’re walled-off from the rest of the stadium! It’s the only place I’ve been to where one section of the stadium chanted against another: Box Seats Suck!

Maybe I'll give a scalper

both my tickets in the bleachers for the Tuesday night game and the Wed. game for two decent tickets inside the stadium for Tuesday. I just really want to walk around monument park and stand behind the O’s dugout during BP for one of the two games.

If you really want to walk the concourse at Yankee Stadium

just go to the most crowded parking garage, cover it with urine, and walk.

That’s perverse!

by Bee the Ball on Jul 17, 2008 8:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Great idea

I should be able to make Tuesday—I’ll try to get Section 57, if they’re available.

by fishoutawata on Jul 17, 2008 5:17 PM EDT   0 recs

HS, I hadn't seen Yankees tix prices in a while

Looks like bleachers are all I can afford, anyway!

by fishoutawata on Jul 17, 2008 5:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That's awesome

Yeah try to get tickets in section 57 but if you can’t get tickets in one of the following sections 59, 55, 53, 51, or 49 because all of those sections are connected. Just let me know when you get your tickets and then we can plan on meeting up.

If you're going

I’ll give a scalper my Monday and Wed. tickets for tickets in side the stadium for Monday night’s game and then I’ll just sit in the bleachers with you on Tuesday Night.

I'll try to get back to you tomorrow on that

I don’t want to screw up your plans.

It's cool

I’m either going to trade up on Mon or Tue it really doesn’t matter to me.

probably busted

Fools messing around with my daughter’s summer schedule are now looking likely to foil my plans to get there for the Weds afternoon game. I’ll e-mail you when I know the final answer, but it’s definitely NOT the lock I thought it was.

VERY bummed. Don’t want to miss out on getting to the original YS.

I don't know if anyboldy is checking this thread

but there is a ticket special on that night:

“On selected games, all Tier Box, Tier Reserved MVP, Tier Reserved and Bleacher seats will be $5.00. Tickets pursuant to this offer may be purchased in advance or on the day of game, subject to availability.”

So it’s basically either the bleachers or the nosebleeds for $5. Nawlins, your tix are already set, right?

Probable Pitchers

Monday:
Guts vs Darrell Rasner

Tuesday:
Danny Cabs vs Mussina

I get to see Guts and Danny. I’m so pumped!
