Gameday Thread: Tigers (47-47) @ O's (45-48)
Detroit Tigers at Baltimore Orioles, Jul 17, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
7:05 :: MASN :: 90° SE 5 MPH :: Rain: 10%
Today's Starting Pitchers GS IP ERA WHIP BAA HR BB K W-L Kenny Rogers - LH - #37 19 114.2 4.55 1.52 .293 11 45 44 6-6 Garrett Olson - LH - #18 14 73.1 5.65 1.57 .287 9 30 47 6-4
Kenny Rogers is 43 years old. Garrett Olson is 24. When Rogers was sneaking beers and partying down with JuCo co-eds, Olson was eating smushed peas. When Rogers was getting bombed in the '96 playoffs, Olson was...I dunno, probably watching that on TV.
One man is old.
The other man is young.
In one locker, there is Rogaine.
In the other, a PSP.
Who figured there would be a 1.5 game difference between the Tigers and Orioles on July 17?

One man has balls
the other, not so much.
There should be a pool on when Olson’s meltdown du jour happens.
Maybe Garrett could learn how to throw a greaseball.
That might help him the same way it’s helped Kenny over the years.

Not me, fo sure. Plus we have a better farm system. They do have that Miguel Cabrera fella, though.

Sadly, Fahey is our best option right now.

Gotta give the marketing folks an A for effort. In the pre-internet days, that would have been huge!
I know I'm way behind in noticing this, but
I am so glad that Jones is batting 2nd now. Makes me feel all good inside to have him and Markakis back to back.

dang it.
I wish Millar could run faster than an octogenarian with bad knees.
"We're excited about the future, but we also want to be excited about now." - Brian Roberts, 07/17/08
Wait, wait, wait...
If Roberts scored before Millar got tagged, wouldn’t it count? Surely he must have scored first, no?
So I guess this is the pattern for the second half
14 hits is not enough… Facing a washed-up fraud like Kenny Rogers is not enough… We still lose on bad baserunning, runners LOB and porous pitching. Now we give back all the one-run miracles from the first half with equally miraculous one run losses in the second.
OK, Andy, I’m ready—do what you must, just give me a swig of rotgut and a stick to bite on.
Well, I watched on TV and couldn't get to a computer
I had low expectations today, so I wasn’t dissapointed. Sure, we lost, and a win would have been awesome, but I actually like the Tigers a lot (a close friend is a Tigers fan), and If I chose a team to lose to, it would definitely be the Tigers.
Plus Garret Olson did go 6 sucky innings, which is still better than 4 sucky innings., now if the suckiness would just go away.
If Melvin Mora and Luke Scott start hitting again, this offense could be fun to watch.
If we overperformed we’d run the risk of not getting anyone traded, and none of us want that. Instead our players played well and lost. I was entertained for the duration of the baseball game (except for Leyland pulling 2 pitchers in the same inning for no frickin reason, there’s a special place in hell for people who do that)
i wouldn't hold my breath...
on mora. scott should bust out soon, though.
