Switching topics, American League manager Terry Francona phoned Orioles president Andy MacPhail to explain why he needed George Sherrill for 2 1/3 innings. The Orioles weren't happy about it.

All the guys who said "it was only N pitches"
You all can now argue with the O’s. I guess they didn’t like it.
You guess they didn’t? It says right there they didn’t. And I think if they flipped their shit and screamed bloody murder about it, they’re overreacting just as bad as folks here were.

piss and moan with them
I don’t know to what degree they were upset. It may be a show.
Overall, I didn’t really care. It’s not going to affect the O’s season.

innings
2 and a third is a lot. and i know awesome mike will argue with it, and he’s got a valid point with it only being a 25 pitch outing. but im looking at the innings, and what ur doing in between. get warmed up, come in and pitch, sit on the bench for an inning, pitch, sit on the bench, then throw a few more in part of an inning. muscles in an arm that have had time to tighten up while hes sitting in between innings. which hes not used to cause hes closed all year and his arms not used to that pattern. thats what i think makes it an issue more than anything
i'd have been pissed if he got injured during the outing..
you know, torn labrum, sprained oblique, etc. etc.. but i don’t really think it was that big of a deal. If anything, I’m proud of the guy and I think this showcased his abilities to all potential buyers.
Whatever… I don’t mind giving Francona some heat either… no reason to carry on the pathetic love fest that happens during the all star game.
