Gameday Thread: Angels @ Orioles
Los Angeles Angels at Baltimore Orioles, Jul 27, 2008 1:35 PM EDT
The Orioles go into today’s game trying to avoid a sweep by the Angels as well as trying to put a stop to two losing streaks: 5 games in a row and 15 Sundays in a row. Standing in their way is Ervin Santana, who is awesome, and Garrett Olson, who is awful.
Let's Go O's!

Brandon Fahey leading off, Dempsey and Hunter in the booth. This has the makings of a fabulous game.

you’d think with Melvin taking off after his HBP they’d want Brian in there.

OOOOOH Hit him! OUCH!
We’ll take the RBI, though I’d rather they’d let him hit.

I don't know
You’d lose your backup catcher real early and risk losing your DH if Randy Hernandez had to go into the game.
Bring Tex Home.
Come on Luke, walk it off.

His new nickname is 'Wild West'
Ryan Budde looks like he was hit in the face by a bar stool before he took his picture; according to Gameday.
When
The Orioles play the rest of that suspended game against the White Sox, will they wear gray…?
Bring Tex Home.
No
I think DD said they’d just be wearing what they would for the second game.

Jim
Don’t you think it’s possible that pitch selection might have been different with a runner on 2nd?
I love how people will say “Well, if it wasn’t for that play, there would have been a guy on base for the next play”....
Bring Tex Home.
Rick Dempsey
leads a pretty charmed life. I mean, he’s in a position that he’s not really that qualified for, he clearly loves doing it, and it’s job that will probably be his until he decides he’s finished. We should all be so lucky.

so -- throwing it out there --- what would you need to have back for sherrill
esp. considering he’s arbitration eligible again and a big part of this year’s puzzle?
a young, top line short stop right? who?
i would never trade him for a prospect who hadn’t cracked the show yet.
Yes, I should say that, which, I should say that.
Of course
Anderson Hernandez is 25 (SS/2B) and being blocked by Reyes and Martinez is a real real young OF that isn’t going to go anywhere for anyone but Roberts. Nick Evans (OF) and Mike Pelfrey (SP) wouldn’t be bad options either.
Bring Tex Home.
see this is what worries me
i just don’t know if anderson hernandez is enough.
if team has sherrill / ray for 09 …. that’s potentially huge
Yes, I should say that, which, I should say that.
The same Anderson Hernandez
who is is hitting .187/.252/.276 in 400ish AB at New Orleans?
His other years have been a little bit better, but he has terrible plate discipline and no power at all. I can’t see him ever being even an average starter. I’d pass on that.

Olson pitches by inning
1st: 9
2nd: 18
3rd: 14
4th: 25
Total: 66
"There is a value to breaking the string of losing seasons as an organization or as a franchise. But breaking that streak can’t come at the expense of doing what you need to do to get your franchise to the point where it can reach the postseason." ~Andy MacPhail
So
That pattern would suggest the 5th will be less than 25 pitches.
In innings when it goes up, +9 more. When it went down it went down by 4.
I’ll guess 21 pitches for Mary-Kate, then…
Bring Tex Home.
Nice inning Garrett
10 pitches in the 5th! He was not impressed by your mathematical deduction.

we didn’t get backpacks, though, we got lunch boxes. But before one game we got to come in early and meet and talk to Cal, Brady, and others. It was awesome.

Garrett is really impressing
Besides that one rough inning, he’s been quite good.
13 pitch 6th inning
89 pitch total
If he can pitch one more inning that’d be huge.

this is completely f*xed ... from Ms web site
The Mariners had hoped that Bedard, who has been sidelined since July 4 with tightness in his left shoulder, would be able to throw at some point this weekend. However, that hope has not come to fruition as Bedard is still not feeling up to the task.
[...]
Bedard had an MRI exam on Tuesday that showed there was nothing structurally wrong with his left shoulder, which is good news for Seattle. As of now, though, the shoulder is just sore.
