Gameday Thread: O's (49-55) @ Yankees (58-46)

Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees

The Yankees are within three games of first place now. The Orioles are not. This is why I never get crazy about the Yankees struggling early on. Here they are, right in the thick of it.

Let's help the Rays out.

Love to see J-Gut in the classic throwback threads.

totally

I really love those uniforms. I think they should have a permanent presence in the O’s stable of uniforms: home whites, road grays, friday night blacks, and sunday(?) classics.

I agree

Those really are the cream-O’-the crop (heh get it? cream-O’-the crop? nevermind.) when it comes to throwback unis.

MASN just announced

That Sarfate is to get the start tomorrow.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

WHAT IS ROBERTS DOING

Or Samuel? That was AWFUL.

samuel was swinging his arm like a dutch windmill

i don’t buy this “being aggressive” shit. that was just stupid

by Y Not on Jul 28, 2008 7:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

B-Rob was out by a mile

but you have to like being aggressive.

by cdavis627 on Jul 28, 2008 7:16 PM EDT   0 recs

that wasn’t aggressive, that was stupid. He was out by two miles. Even on a bad throw Molina would have had time to nail him. .

How

Many times has he been picked off or run into outs?

Terrible baserunning from the team.

Bring Tex Home.

Brian has been a much worse base runner this year

I don’t know if it’s some change he doesn’t realize he’s made this year, or if it’s a result of this team’s stupid “aggressive” philosophy, or what, but it’s not good. Hard to blame that one on anybody but Samuel, though.

No I don't

Samuel made an equally stuipid call yesterday, but got lucky with a bobble. I knew that was going to make him try it again.

The O's

are operating under the philosophy of making the other team execute a perfect play. It is kind of like how the Angels are every year, but the Orioles just don’t know how to do it. They don’t know when to call a steal or wave someone home and it is just embarrassing.

Maybe if Ramon hits well this series

The Yankees will want to trade for him.

All I can say is that I was at yesterday’s game and even when Olson’s throwing strikes, you hold your breath waiting for the seven-run implosion.

I haven't had a drink in 15 years

So I know I’m not drunk. But I think I just saw two Orioles hitters in a row take Mike Mussina deep in the legendary Yankee Stadium in a house full of MFY fans.

MLB.com is blacking me out of this game, the arseholes. But ha-ha on them: it's on YES-- and

I get to hear Joe Angel call it on MLB radio while I watch the YES feed.

The bad news is, MLB is about 90 sec. behind the live game. What a cheeseball operation. So I pretty much have to listen to the Yerks announcers.

MLB.com is even worse for Mac users.

I was barely able to use the radio feed last year (which I liked to sync over my fave announcer, GT), but they “upgraded” the site this year and made it useless for Mac users. What doofuses.

Joe and Fred are the best, and the unfortunate thing is that the DC broadcast on 980 AM gets weak when the sun goes down and the station cuts its power.

Kvetch, kvetch, kvetch.

so he said “okay well nice meeting you” and did the walk of shame out of here… i’ll give him props for the attempt though.

I assume that's the case. I sure didn't see Samuel putting up the stop sign.

That being said, Brian’s been picked off a lot of bases this year, and that play in the first inning just reminded me how Roberts doesn’t seem to be running well this season. Not that our team’s loaded with smart baserunners.

by Birds Man of Bethesda on Jul 28, 2008 8:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He was waving him around like a madman.

And Roberts always gets picked off occasionally; the way he gets his steals is by getting ridiculous jumps and catching pitchers off balance. The downside is that he’s going to get picked off now and then.

by O'sFan21 on Jul 28, 2008 8:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah but he's

27 for 37 this year. I don’t have the numbers in front of me but that seems a lot worse than recent years.

Last year he was an incredible 50-57, but two years before he was 27-37

Year before that he was 29-41. But the POs don’t count as CS unless he was going. Still I think that’s just the way he steals bases – so maybe the league is adjusting a little bit. He could use a few more successful attempts, but I’m not too concerned.

by O'sFan21 on Jul 28, 2008 8:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

wow

I must just have last year stuck in my head.
