And kiss my haiku.

Only criticism is if we don't make further deals

There is no way we should finish the season with Sherrill, Roberts, Huff, Heranandez, etc.

But when you look at where we came from; come the fuck on.

Those guys will all have value later

in the offseason and next trade deadline. I’d like to see changes happen, too, but there’s no rush.

by dkdc on Jul 29, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Sherrill is not likely to be worth more

Bullpen help always sells at a premium during the season. Same with Huff, people will overpay for a hot bat to make a final push.

"Hey Yankees... you can take your apology and your trophy and shove 'em straight up your ass!" --Tanner Boyle

by BirdFanInPhilly on Jul 29, 2008 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Sherill is under control until 2011

There will be plenty more in-season’s to trade him.

And Huff apparently has zero interest because he’s a DH.

by dkdc on Jul 29, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Sherrill maybe under control

But the Orioles could probabl,y get far more than his value if they trade him now. The guy has done a good job filling in the closer role; but he’s probably best suited as a setup man/lefty specialist. I think you can get more than his value if you trade him now.

by BirdFanInPhilly on Jul 29, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

And since we fans hardly ever really know what is offered, we have to either trust MacPhail or not that he made the right move.

by dkdc on Jul 29, 2008 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Oddly enough, I'm fine with finishing the season with all of them.

If MacPhail can’t get the deal he wants now, then whatever, see if you can find it during the offseason, anyway.

He’s 31 years old and is having the best year of his career. Sell high, this is when you want to move him. Besides, you’ll get more for a guys with a year and half left, rather than just a half year.

It's not about him slowing down

It’s just that guys who have a career year at 31, usually don’t repeat that year at 32. In other words, this is likely not the real Huff, or at least the Huff you should expect to see in the future. Most likely he’ll regress towards his averages.

Fine with me. Maybe he’ll be tired tomorrow when they really need him.

I can laugh about the eighth and ninth innings, now.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

per the post game show, the ump who tossed Cabrera was a minor league ump filling in. Guess he won’t be getting the full time call any time soon.

Thanks, Stace, that's actually encouraging to hear.

I mean, not only was the toss just a really ignorant-of-the-obvious kind of call, but the guy’s strike zone had a serious wandering problem. The fact that there weren’t more disagreements on balls and strikes only makes sense now: Both teams knew the guy was a fill-in and either cut him slack or just gave up.

The short version: Bad ump, back to AAA!

Girardi on Cabrera's pitch
"I don’t know. You never know," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Daniel Cabrera is wild, but I don’t like it. He was down in the zone all night tonight and you just don’t like it. It’s happened a few times with this guy, Daniel Cabrera. We know at times he has some control issues but it’s just awful dangerous when you’re up there."

What a douchebag. I’m glad he’s the Yankees manager. He’s so easy to dislike. I thought Torre was a great manager.

Stop the presses! This just in: ESPN game recap is...YerkeeCentric!

I was shocked—shocked! — to see a 2-min. squib on SportsCenter about how the Yerks LOST this game, despite the heroics of A-Rod, The Cap’n, and Giambi- whose “line drive to left” (I sh*t you not!!) almost won it in the 9th over the Washington Generals. Sorry, I mean the Baltimore Orioles, of course. Although it was hard to tell. Exactly one Oriole batter was featured (Huff), and the tear he is currently on went utterly unnoticed. Oh, and Daniel Cabrera actually won the game and racked up a QS, too—although he was apparently present at the festivities solely to throw at someone for no apparent reason.

Luckily, this is America, so there are ways to address this kind of First Ammendment injustice: I am writing the Pretend Commissioner immediately, and expect him to demand an apology from the network before lunch.

For those of you who believe that, there are some remarkable opportunities in Florida real estate and time-share condominiums that I’d like to discuss with you at your earliest convenience. And replica watches are the wave of the future.
