Gameday Thread: Orioles (51-55) at Yankees (58-48),1:05 PM EDT
Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees
|
![]() |
I'd post pithy and insightful commentary, but I'm still working on sleep derivation from my NY trip, so you shall have none. Les Paul was awesome, by the way. And Shea Stadium has zero enduring qualities aside from the HR apple. Just sayin'.
Go O's.

So based on Pitcher's W/L we should win this

SWEEP! SWEEP! SWEEP!
Do we have a chance in this game? Well, sure. Look, we are the Best Last Place Team in Baseball. And by a long shot. Which pretty much summarizes our chances today. As the Russian saying has it, Everything comes back around sooner or later. And here we are, ready for sooner but preoccupied with later. Which is simply a paraphrase of the more popular saying, “Let’s kill those douchebags.”
Go O’s!

Isn’t “Sir Farty” how the other Knights of the Aruban Round Table refer to Ponson?
Oh, sorry, he’s probably “Sir Fatty”. One letter makes all the difference.

On Sid's knighthood document from Queen Beatrix, they used the formal version:
Sir Fatarse.
But since it’s been revoked, he’s open to suggestions.

We would be in serious contention
in the NL West. How many stories have you seen in the last week that say “Don’t sleep on the Rockies?” Our record is better than theirs. We’d be 3 games out in the NL West. Three games.

It was my 40th birthday gift
I’ve been talking about wanting to see him since he started playing Monday shows in NYC in the late 80s. Never got around to it. Decided this winter I was gonna go. I spent a few days at my college roommate’s place, and he got us reservations to see Les. That’s why I couldn’t go to the Monday O’s game. But I got to eat dinner and have drinks with zk, and then walk through Times Square and go see Les Paul from a table about 25 feet away. It was incredible.

He plays very slowly
and can’t use the ring finger on his left hand. But he plays very graceful scales, and can crank up the notes per second for short bursts. He’s adapted his playing style to his physical limitations very well.

Let's see if Joba goes headhunting
Girardi is probably telling him to smoke em inside after the Daniel incident yesterday. Joba threw a pitch right at Kevin Youkilis’ head on his last start and got away with it. Let’s see if they consistently enforce the rules in this game.
It’s my sense that the Red Sox team was completely deflated after their own pitcher did not reciprocate after Joba’s “mistake” that nearly killed Youkilis (the only thing that saved him was that his bat flew up in front of his face and tipped the ball, thus compounding the blatant head hunting by being called a strike).

I might
have considered a trade of the two previous games to beat the hut tonight, but chasing mooseena again was great and last night got real interesting. Great game. Still, I don’t just hope we beat the hut, I’m hoping he gives up 20 in the first. Then Sherrill can give up 19 in the 9th, only to tease the Yank fans yet again and strike out the final three batters with the bases loaded. The last batter has to be Chad Moeller, though. SWEEP!!!!

Zaun to Marlins?
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marlins/2008/07/zaun-to-marlins.html
The upside to this, of course, is that the O’s rarely play the Marlins, so we may never again have to hear about Zaun’s familial relationship with a certain former Oriole.

Talk about analysis.
While Casey Kotchman is considered the better defensive player and has a slightly better batting average than Mark Teixeira, the Los Angeles Angels traded for Teixeira because he has superior power…
Teixeira: 20 HR, 78 RBI
Kotchman: 12 HR, 54 RBI…and a higher on base percentage.
Teixeira: .373
Kotchman: .327

Yeah, Sarfate went 4.0 and had 5 R score
so this was an improvement how? If Burres gets to the 7th, we’re back to where we’ve been the last 3 weeks – the starter was short and a long man had to pick up the slack. How is this an improvement?
