Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world, and you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind" -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution. But from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist.
And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared, in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive!
Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!
IN THE WORDS OF MY GENERATION...

I guess everything I ever wanted to know
about why Wins are a useless measure of a pitcher’s performance is encapsulated in today’s starters.
Guthrie has a better BAA (by a lot), a better ERA (by a lot), a better WHIP, more Ks, fewer walks, fewer HR allowed, and all of that in more innings pitched than Padilla. Yet Padilla is 10-4 and Guts is 4-7.
Wow.

Also, from Roch...
Rocky Cherry and Esteban Yan combined for five scoreless innings. Salazar has a 14-game hitting streak.

So, what you need to do this afternoon is go out there, and lay the beating of a lifetime on these pricks.

Don't forget
and give up at least ONE less run they you score.
That’s kinda important, too.

or, to parse it a different way,
make it a command and change one word:
give up one less run; then, you score.
you know, they’d start the first without allowing a run, and then they’d plate some.

Any chance for a clean save tonight?
These guys just performed pretty well against the Yankees- after our performance against the Nats and Royals I hope the relief pitching can hold up! This would be one hell of a 4th of July present; I’d like to see us play them like we played the Cubs. Any chance Sherrill gets ‘em three-up three-down for a save?
Did y’all see Sherrill’s comments in SI? They asked him who he would want to play him in a movie, and he went with Denzel Washington. Odd choice, but it WOULD be awesome to be played by Denzel…

if they wanna post stuff like this then theres no reason to be a good sport.
besides, we may have sucked for the past 10 years, but they havent finished better then next to lastin the past 8. and, oh yea, have never won a WS (although they did win 1 playoff game once…)
ps – while the graphic pissed me off, its pretty sweet. well done, whoever made it…

you see, i personally don’t care how many guns he owns or if he shoots defenseless animals or even, as he claims, if he waves his pistol at drifters in gas station parking lots.
however, he needed to recognize that baltimore has a SERIOUS FIREARM PROBLEM before popping to the sun earlier this year. it’s different in the city.

I think the firearm problem
Isn’t with law abiding citizens who follow the proper protocol to obtain a gun they have the right to own.
I hate guns myself, I respect people’s right to have and use them responsibly if they choose and if they obtain the the correct way.

For anyone just tuning in, here is your game summary
Milton Bradley is pathetic, the Orioles middle infield should be all stars, what the hell is up with the crowd?
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Dear Andy,
If you can acquire this “Rodriguez” guy from the idiot in New York, there’s your shortstop solution.

GUTS!
Eat it, Texas.
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."

I actually think that today, with 3 more outs we can-- drum roll-- win the game.
Nobody named Loewen is going to enter this contest, right?

Yikes, a history lesson from Gary 'n' Buck. They should read the last George Will column, actually...

in fairness...
gary does have a law degree from georgetown and is admitted to practice in front of he supreme court, so it’s not completely ridiculous to hear him reflect on the framers and the declartion of indpendence.

Hey,I couldn't be more for lessons-- I'm a teacher! The Yikes was of surprise.
Though the Will column would’ve been a nice addendum, pointing out as it does that what actually happened on the 4th of July, 1776, is in some doubt.
Anyway, rock on, Gary! How about a quiz during the 7th inning stretch?

John Adams: Happy July 2nd!
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations, as the great Anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp, shews, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of the continent to the other, from this time forward forever.
"I wasn't here for the losing years. But it feels a little like the days with Earl in charge and John Lowenstein smashing birthday cakes in the middle of the clubhouse with a bat." - John "T-Bone" Shelby
