I'm totally gonna admit it. I cried.
Since I was on the Orioles.com video page, getting an, ahem, MILF screenshot for the Texas recap thread, I decided to watch the 2008 "Orioles Magic" video again. And it totally hit me hard this time. I mean, I got completely choked up.
Like, right around the time they showed Hagy and sang "there's a thundering roar from 34", I literally started blinking away tears. And then they cut to some footage of Eddie and some of the other 80s Orioles goofing around in the same way as these guys do.
I know we'll be out of contention in September. I know that half the team will be gone by then, and that there's more work to do.
But damn if I haven't loved this first half of baseball. This is the best July 4 weekend in many a year. I LOVE this team. I'm wearing my Oriole jacket with PRIDE in NYC again (well, not when it's this hot).
As usual, MLB shoots themselves in the foot by not giving an obvious direct link. But I think this link should work for you. If it doesn't, here's a link to the page the video is on.
Watch it again and try not to get a little verklempt.

Just a note...
I don’t know that they’ll be out of it by September, if I recall, they were supposed to be out of it by the end of April, the end of May, the end of June, and so on…I mean, I don’t think they’ll be running away with the division or whatever, but I think they’re going to be a huge pain in the ass for the Rays/Pink Hats/Pinstripe Douchebags

Both times I've seen the Orioles win at Camden Yards this year
they played the song after the game and I was very close to an emotion that would elicit crying.
I mean, is this team really that fluky. Are we any more fluky than the Twins who have a forgettable lineup, or the A’s and their unusually low team OPS. There are some pretty good hitters on this team, and a couple hitters who are in the prime of their careers. Jim Johnson has been one of the best relievers in Baseball and George Sherrill has been one of the best relievers in baseball, as well as the only guy on this team I would really be serious about trading.

Johnson yes, Sherrill no
He’s doing fine but I doubt he’s even one of the best in the AL right now. But he’s definitely tradeable because he has lots of saves and that is the true mark of a great reliever to any old-school baseball guy.

SC has him in the bottom 1/2 of teh AL
and makes a pretty convincing case for doing so.

He’s pretty good. But there are some great closers in the AL. Sherrill is not automatic.

BUT
I should say, he has a lot of trade value. Lefty, dependable, has proven he can close.

Absolutely, he's trade bait
I like the guy. I flip my hat when he comes in games. I love the way he pitches.
But dude’s 30. Jim Johnson isn’t. He’s 25. Chris Ray is still only 26, and can assume JJ’s role.
If Andy can get a good deal, do it. Someone’s gonna pay for a power lefty closer, and pay dearly. And we’re more than willing to deal.

not to mention...
he still has value as a top notch LOOGY. showing he can close adds value, but i wouldn’t be surprised to see him moved and pushed back into a set up role.

I don't care what his NEW team does with him
I just want to know what the O’s GET for him.

I definitely want to trade him
but everyone here has to realize that the days of getting top minor league prospects at the deadline are over. Thats why I’d rather let Jay Payton walk at the end of the year and get the compensation picks, as well as not trade B-Rob or Aubrey Huff.

There's still dumb GMs out there
who will convince themselves “We’re just ONE player away!” and make a deal they later regret. I mean, the Cubs did it last year with Trachsel, for goodness’ sake. Maybe we didn’t get back a top level prospect, but Scott Moore hopefully turns out to be more than just an organizational player. And Trachsel wasn’t THAT good last year.
I trust Andy to make a deal if it’s good, and not to if it’s not. He was ready to keep Bedard if we didn’t get Jones. And Pie of the Cubs hasn’t exactly turned out to be enough to give up Brian Roberts for.

Huff is a no-brainer trade
He’s still signed through 2009. This team does not need to keep an overpaid, past-his-prime guy who’s playing above his career norms for 1.5 seasons just to get a compensation pick. We can get a moderate return for Huff with the abberation year he’s having, and it’s a salary dump to boot, something to save for Teixeira or someone else who could be with this team when it’s ready to win.

Teixeira is fool's gold
I’ll believe that when I see it. I think that whole idea is just sentimentality getting the better of people who haven’t had anything more solid to chew on in a while.

Chris Ray
looks slightly older than Fahey. I think they spend their time away from the game trading baseball cards or reading comic books. Trembley buys them ice cream so they don’t cry.

To some degree
it shows the depth of the position in the AL. Sherrill’s damn good. But you’re right, he’s top 6, MAYBE, and on the wrong side of 30.

I had him in the discussion
For top 6, but that was about a week ago.

the orioles magic video makes me laugh
i don’t get emotional about it, i just really like it. however, i the last time i was at the game they played “when you were young” by the killers and showed a decent video/slide show with it.
“and sometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live… when you were young”
and they showed memorial stadium at that moment and that got me for a minute. i’m going to the game tomorrow, i hope they play it again.

yeah, it's not the best song i've ever heard or anything
but i do enjoy it with the shots of the old teams and memorial stadium.

Such a Great Video!
I’ve gotta admit every time I watch the video it makes me so proud to be an O’s fan!
O-R-I-O-L-E-S MAGIC, MAGIC, MAGIC, MAGIC!
Millar is totally our new mascot. He does a great job leading the team. I have the song as my ringtone and every time it goes off people down here are just like WTF. It really freaks them out, especially when I have it on loud ring.

I wasn't even around when the song was made
But hearing it makes me so proud to be a fan. This is honestly the first baseball season where, one, I’ve cared, and two, I’ve felt proud of my team.

That video shows you can't measure Millar's value by stats alone.
I know that’s a dumb thing to say, but we all love this mediocre team because of its spirit, which is hard to even imagine gelling without Kevbo, with his ridiculous predictions and hair dyes and general willingness to make a fool of himself—and occasional out-of-the-blue dinger. He’s great for the young ‘uns.

He’ll manage. In my mind’s eye I see him failing at that gloriously, but if he wants to, he’ll manage.
