NEED HELP

I’m watching the game and my family is planning to go to Camden this fall. We are hoping to sit on the third base side one night and the first base side on the next night. We’re thinking section 4 ($15) and 250 ($55). What would you guys suggest? What would be the best bang for our buck? Its been awhile since our last trip and this is the first one I’ve been put in charge of. I can’t disappoint.

My recs...

Since you’re rolling family style, might I recommend going with the All-You-Can-Eat LF Club seats (sect. 272-288)? $35 a head, and, literally, All-You-Can-Eat. Want a 10th hot dog? Knock yourself out. Need nachos for the little ones? Go to town, big guy. Seriously, I take my boss’s kids and they have a blast.

If you’d like to get a little closer to the action, I also dig the infield terrace seats. You may not have a chance of catching any fouls, but the view is impeccable. Besides, Clancy works the 1st base seats, and if you tip him on the first round, he’ll be back every inning. A total class act.

Finally, you can kick it, Memorial Stadium-style, and cop some LF Upper Reserves. If you’re coming in September, chances are there’ll be plenty of good seats available. Sneaking down from the cheap seats is a time honored tradition in my circles, and this year it seems like it’s been easier than ever to sit in $45 seats for the price of an $8 ticket.

But those are my preferences. If you have favorites, stick with them.

Does the All-You-Can-Eat

include drinks, as well? I assume no alcohol, but does soda come with it? I can see the O’s not including the drinks on this.

Soda and lemonade included

I’ve never sat there, but it’s quite popular.

Clancy

I was behind the dugout for D-Cabs CG last week in Clancy’s section. Cool dude. Usher down 3B line…NOT a cool dude. The next night he went person to person through an entire section checking tickets. The sections was about 1/10 full before he started. Then…then…he brought some official looking dude with credentials around his neck to tell these two guys they couldn’t chant “you suck” or something of the sort at this O’s fan in LF that wouldn’t throw back a Royals HR. Two high school kids took their ticket stubs to the usher about the 7th and asked for his autograph which I thought was pretty funny.

Uptight ushers

They’ve gotten more of a stick up their asses in the past month. Maybe the turning point was the Sox series where the lone PHN member got his clock cleaned out in left field.

Or maybe it’s just me, being sensitive to such things.

Some of them have had a stick up their ass all year...

I sat in the LF upper reserve during the first Yankee series, and the woman up there kept bitching at anyone who so much as breathed a “Yankees Suck”

I saw Clancy at the O's/Nats game... in DC

My friend shouted, “Hey Clancy, what are you doing here?”

To which he replied, “Makin’ money, baby!”

Clancy rules.

re

We ended up really just walking around a lot. The first day we didn’t get into town until 2:30 or 3:00 and went early and ate some BBQ. The next day we walked around the harbor and took the water taxi over to fells point where we walked through the markets and stopped at stopped at a few places for me to have a drink.

I dig the infield upper box seats

For $20, I think it has the best cost/quality of seats ratio. Especially in the first few rows between about section 328 and 342. Those are all pretty much behind the plate.

If you are going to sneak into seats, the best ones to sneak into are in the terrace field box area close to the plate. Those are the ones on the lower level, but beneath the upper decks. You can get pretty close to the action there and usually there are some seats available – and the ushers don’t watch them as closely as the seats closer to the field, so you won’t get kicked out.

250 is a nice section if you want to drop the dollars. I used to like 272 – the best seats in the cheapest part of the club level – only $25 – but now its in the all you can eat club, which I guess is ok if you were planning on spending at least $15 on nachos anyway….

My favorite seats

Are in left field, sections 66-86. I like both the seats behind the left fielder and on the third base side. They’re $27, and you can almost always get seats in the first or second row. Lots of foul ball and home run action, and there are usually a few harmless rowdies there to amuse you. And you get to yell LUUUUUUKE pretty much every inning.

Oh and

Club level (the 200s) are nice seats, but for the money I prefer to sit closer to the field. The terrace box seats the run behind the club box are really nice, and I believe cheaper than the club level. And if you sit in the sections right in front of the press box it’s almost like you have your own little section because it’s pretty small, and you can talk to Roch and heckle Jim Palmer right from your seat.

Very easy to sneak into, to

If you come out of the tunnel and turn up, the ushers don’t give you a second look.

Yup

And if you go down the line a little bit, there are often first row seats available.

They're too busy patrolling the expensive seats

The usher who works right behind home plate is the worst. I suppose they have to put a hard ass there because of the season ticket holders, that’s where Cal sits when he comes to games, etc, but he’s out of control. My dad and I were at a game, either last year or the year before, where we sat in section 35 right in front of the press box. Red Sox-Orioles. Danny C walked like 6 batters in the first inning, the O’s were getting their asses kicked, and the weather was really miserable. By the 4th or 5th inning pretty much everyone had left but the Red Sox fans. The seats behind home plate were pretty much totally empty, but every time someone tried to go near there, this usher had a fit. He was turning people away left and right for no good reason. And he was mean about it, calling security and stomping around. It was totally uncalled for. We had more fun watching him than the game, actually.

There ought to be a rule

That after the fifth inning, any open seats are free for the taking.

I've been to a couple extra innings games

we’re talking >11 innings, where the PA announcer invited everyone still in the upper deck to move down.

2006

Phillies during interleague: 18 innings. We went from the $5 tickets down to the left field wall. That was sweet. Every time I’ve tried to upgrade since, I’ve been shut down.

Upper Reserve

I had an usher policing people in the LEFT FIELD UPPER RESERVE on bobblehead night. The game had high ticket sales because people would buy 8 tickets, collect their bobble and leave, but the section was a ghost town. Yet the usher would send people up to their seats in row Z, even though no one was present for row AA.

Wow

And those are about the worst seats in the house….

I'm going on July 23rd...

Section 243… Anybody sat in that area? Right next to the booth. What’s it like? I’m afraid it’s going to be blocked by the overhang and/or the press box.
