Sarfate's brutal post game interview
He belittles himself, states that he sucks repeatedly, thinks he's failing as a starter (because he is, of course). Makes absolutely no excuses or anything.
On the one hand, he's doing a horrible job as a starter. On the other hand, it's refreshing to see a major leaguer man up when making a mistake and stop blaming it on stupid shit like "just a mistake pitch."
He's still young, has a powerful arm... hope his confidence isn't shot enough where he can't remember how to pitch like the ~3.50ERA reliever he had been most of this year.

Damn that was Rough
But like you said it’s nice to see a Major Leaguer admit that he’s not pitching well and not just put the blame on his other team members.

gotta hand it to him
He got put into a really tough situation, and yeah hes struggling like hell. But at least hes gutting it out and giving it all hes got. You gotta feel for the guy though, he was on track to have a pretty good season and now his numbers are crap. Taking one for the team I guess.

:(
Hey Dennis, I respect you for being a man about it. I’m glad you actually seem to care about fucking up – maybe you can use that to get better.
Maybe MelMo could take some pointers from Sarfate…

Feel bad for the guy
You know that he knows he’s not cut out to be a starter, but they keep throwing him out there and he keeps f’ing it up. Amber asked him if he wants to be a starter and he did say it, but the gist was “hell no.”

I feel bad for the guy
He’s a reliever. End of story.
Stop torturing the poor dude, and get a real starter to replace him. Even if it’s Radhames Liz.

I didn't like watching that
That was brutal. I hope he doesn’t go into a mental funk and just collapse.
Safarte and Olson are really struggling to learn. That can be said for a lot of the staff. Wait until Penn makes an appearance (again) someday. Liz is still struggling. Tillman and Arrieta are lined up to get beat up a bit.
I just hope a number of them can hang tough and be serviceable pitchers. The entire rebuilding effort hinges on it.

yeah.. but man, with olson
after a poor outing, it’s always something like this:
“everything went downhill because I fell 2-0 on the second hitter of the game. Then it was compounded by the fact that they just hit a good pitch. The other home run was a mistake pitch that was supposed to go down and away but it caught a little bit too much of the plate. The third home run was a curveball but you know, they’re a professional team and they hit it out… that’s what they get paid to do. Otherwise, I think I’m where I want to be.”
so sick of that speech… i realize it’s probably an unconscious defense mechanism to protect the ego, but christ.. it’s become a trite post-game speech.

Having that asshole attitude is not a bad thing
I’ll take a guy who thinks he’s tits over a guy who doubts himself any day of the week.

true but
there’s a difference in having self confidence and being delusional. Dennis knows he sucks at starting and there’s nothing he can do about it. It’s quite sad.

Scary
He’s right on the edge right now—I think DD has to get him the hell out of there ASAP before his confidence is permanently shot, if it isn’t already. The guy is just not a starter, enough already, don’t just toss him into the breach. If we’re going to lose, let someone who wants to do that (or someone who makes excuses) take that. This guy needs a rest.
