I cannot believe Melvin freaking Mora has 21 home runs.

his hot streak has been ridiculous

We’re talking about a guy that was downright AWFUL weeks ago. He’s now a 117 in OPS+ and his OPS is well over .800. What the fuck.

He's an enigma

Since the break he’s raised his average 50 points, his OBP 40 points, and his SLG like 100 points. In 31 games.

not to mention

he went from first to third on a walk last night! What is this, little league?

that was preposterous...

that’s the kind of shit that usually happens to the o’s.

per roch...
When Melvin Mora went from first to third on Luke Scott’s walk, it wasn’t as freakish a play as it might have appeared. It actually was done somewhat by design – and by borrowing a page from the Red Sox.

“We learned that last year because we were the recipient of them doing that to us,” Trembley said. “When we went over our reports, we saw how they were aligning themselves against a couple of our left-handed hitters, so what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

I love Diamond Dave

he is able to drive 55 if the situation dictates.

memlo...

should eclipse (or come close) all his major counting stats from his silver slugger season. doubles may be tough, but how does he not get at least 27 homers (he has 21)? how does he not get at least 104 rbi (he has 95)?

how is silver slugger awarded? if memlo finishes at least somehwat strong, he’s got to be in line for comeback player of the year or something.

here comes the wave and the turn, here come the crash and the burn.

Louisville Slugger site says:

“As a natural extension of the Silver Bat award, HandB created the Silver Slugger Team in 1980. These special trophies go to the top offensive performer at each position in both leagues. The Silver Slugger Team "line-up” is decided by coaches and managers who vote for the players they’d most like to have on their team – based solely on their performance at the plate. The coaches and managers consider a combination of offensive stats for the season along with their personal impressions of a player’s overall effectiveness wielding a bat. They vote for nine players within their own league and cannot vote for one of their own team members."

Translation: until he changes positions or retires, this is probably the Alex Rodriguez Award (though Crede got it in 2006)

Rodness

was “focusing on his defense” back then, if I remember my slump excuses correctly…

Hope he can do something like this next year

He’s not likely going anywhere for $9M. Plus the O’s don’t have any replacements. Go Melvin.

This just in...

When Amber Theoharis said that Ramon could hit 25 home runs this season, she really meant Melvin Mora.

Speaking of Ramon

This confused me to no end:

http://tigers-thoughts.blogspot.com/2008/08/projected-elias-rankings.html

FYI: Elias Rankings project type A or B free agency (which determine if the team could get compensation picks if they leave declining arbitration)

by Reddrummer9187 on Aug 21, 2008 4:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, that's not happening, although if he continues to do decently offensively, Type B is an option

it’d be nice to get picks for some of these guys if we can’t trade them

Her game has gone downhill this year

A series of bad haircuts will do that to you.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.
