Go O's
Now that I got that out of the way, I’m hoping the Yankees sweep Boston, and then the White Sox sweep Boston.

ok so the O's have no bench
Nice. I was so mad at Huff for getting thrown out of this game when it started. That was back when I still pretty much hated him. Sorry about that, Aubrey!

Why can't the O's wear their gray uniforms
and the White Sox their home whites, for continuity’s sake.

now here's part of the possible rationale
he was down 2-0 on griff.. 2 bad pitches that both could have easily pushed the runner across… so griffey has to know a strike is coming. So Trembles was thinking, maybe, that he would rather start with a new, fresh count on Dye instead. What do you think?

Griff is old and an average player. There’s no need to create unnecessary drama over him on a 2-0 count.

hahaha... funny post by Roch:
Since Lou Montantez singled tonight, driving in the go-ahead run in the 14th inning of a game that was suspended on April 28, does that count as his first major league hit, instead of the home run back on Aug. 6? The Orioles had to check with Elias. Turns out, the home run stands as his first hit.

You pick one case at random
and then you continue to pick other cases at random. If there is a strategy other than common sense/knowing basic odds I certainly don’t know what it is, other than when they offer you a considerable amount you take it.
[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
by Stacey on Aug 25, 2008 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's more than basic odds
“When they offer you a considerable amount you take it” – this is basically Risk Aversion, that is the guarantee of the average of the sums possible is superior to playing the “game.”
If they added up all the sums in the cases and divided by the number of cases, that should be enough so that all Risk Averse people automatically are bought out in the beginning of the game.
It would be basic odds in take-it-or leave it situations (like the one you mentioned) , but not in the beginning when there will be intermediate offers to be bought out, as then everything gets incredibly complicated really fast. This is exacerbated by my next point.
The show wants to offers to be compelling. That is, they want to make an offer they think the person will have a hard time accepting or declining. Since more risk averse people will accept offers early, rejecting an offer signals the offer-maker that you are less risk averse and they will need to offer you more money to entice you to be bought out. They also don’t want people to buy out too early, so they will often lowball the early offers. Both these factors serve to make offers better as time goes on.
This means that a smart strategy early is to reject offers early, because you know chances are pretty good that they will offer you more money (as long as you are not extremely unlucky) simply by rejecting their first offer.
Like I said, it’s incredibly fascinating. I’d love to write a paper on it some day.

When a comment is at the bottom of the page, you have to hit "reply" to reply to it directly
Otherwise, you start a new thread, like you’ve been doing. It is a little confusing, i know.

no, I just saw that you were responding to comments, but starting new threads
I do it from time to time. It sucks because if you have a witty line, it’s usually overlooked because it’s not part of the specific thread that you were referring to. I need my witty lines to be recognized so I can derive some sort of satisfaction from them :(

The front office is responsible for procuring these guys. Run them out there, let them bleed, and then when anyone in the FO complains, tell them to get some real f’ing players.

Local IT guru: Sure, lemme have a look. [Pause, tinker,etc.]. Key-rist, where have you been with this thing— Russia?!?"
So yeah, I knew I was screwed. He can’t fix it, so I have to run off a Linux-derivative disk til I get back to Moscow, where the replacement disk is. Which means no frickin’ MLB.com.
The good news was the weekend wedding of my cousin’s daughter on Long Island Sound. If Gatsby had won Daisy’s hand and married her at his place, this was the wedding they would’ve had. I ate something over two whole lobsters with Margaritas for mouthwash but still answered the call when the Mister Softee truck pulled into the estate’s back yard. Sprinkles are overrated.
