1-0, O’s.
It would be nice to avoid the sweep, but Rad needs to cooperate.
Yup, you're the only one watching it.
Go Joe Biden!

Why should I care about Biden?
I’m a safe Obama vote in a safe Obama state, but Biden does nothing for me. Convince me.
Dude, I'm drinking the Kool-Aid
I’ve been calling him the Senator from MBNA for years.
Uh, he’s running with Obama!
That’s all I got.

I guess that works
It’s not like the VP means anything, but I guess I’m just underwhelmed by this election, in general.
If the democrats blow this one, I’m done with them.
I only have room in my heart to root for one band of lovable losers, and the Orioles aren’t going anywhere.
Uh yeah,,, about that...
what happened to all “We Need Change Rhetoric”? Let’s just go ahead and pick someone who’s been in Washington for 30 YEARS!!! And not too many people from my area like Biden much.
Kevbo: [to George Sherrill] George, you look a lot like Vin Diesel...
Flatbill: Let's get somethin' straight... Vin Diesel looks like me.
-From "The Making of Orioles Magic"
I'll admit I'm watching the DNC
But this is exactly why I wanted this team to lose – four months ago. All that meaningless winning at the beginning of the season is just going to get us a lower draft pick as we will not even finish CLOSE to .500. We all saw the tank coming and that is why I pushed for the Orioles to lose.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
yeah.
When Clinton starts talking, I’m dragging two TV’s next to each other. Biden’s OK, but he’s no Dick Gephardt, or Tom Daschle or General Wesley Clark.

I just bought it yesterday.

wow. so that's what happens when your 8 & 9 guys get on. huh.
Yes, I should say that, which, I should say that.
I have the game on
But I’m also playing tetris. Because it’s awesome. I’ll turn the DNC on when Bill is ready to talk because I heart him, even though I think he’s come off a little bad lately. But he’s just trying to protect his lady.

Bill is the shit
I saw him speak live 5-10 years ago, and I literally would’ve killed for him as I walked out of the auditorium.
Dude has magical powers.
By the way...
Dr. Jones due back on Monday, to start the Red Sox series.

Happy days soon.
Please keep running on Nick Markakis!
I love watching him gun people down.

on that adam jones masn post ....

Markakis shy??? I hear [sic] he is cutting a swath (on one side of the tracks anyway) that B Anderson would be proud of….
Does this mean Rick is a hit with the ladies?
Yes, I should say that, which, I should say that.
i've never been plugged into rumors like that ....
how does one establish the truth of this stuff? i mean i don’t doubt it ….. have you heard anecdotes? bar talk? what have you?
Yes, I should say that, which, I should say that.
It seems that
in Baltimore, everyone knows someone who has had sex or almost had sex with Nick Markakis.
A friend of mine dates a girl who works for an organization that Nick hooked up with for some charity work, and he essentially worked his way through every young, single girl there.
Not that I blame him.

OK, boys...
If you were 24, single, and going to be a millionaire any month now, how many wouldn’t do the same thing?
Thought so.
/OK, I wouldn’t, but I’m just weird.

I'm not sure that invalidates Roch's point
Nick could be the shiest person on earth, but a famous, attractive professional athlete is going to have difficulty not scoring on any given night.
Adam Jones is back?

I’ve been out of town and don’t kn ow, but has this guy montanez proven he has trade value, or is he just getting lucky tonight?

I can't imagine he has much trade value
He’s been pretty good since coming up but he’s 26 and this is his first chance at the big leagues. Don’t know if anyone would give anything up for him. Might be a good guy on the team next year to replace Payton.
[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
yeah...
I figured if he had it would be him + something else for something we need.

Montanez is young, he's technically a prospect... or something
No real motivation to trade young good players. I could see him starting at LF next year, moving Luke to DH and letting Aubrey replace Millar. If this guy pans out he could be on the next contending Orioles team. Hopefully he will stay good.
Eh
Montanez is a longshot to be a starting OF.
He could have value as a 4th OF/ platoon with Scott.
I’d like to see Reimold up too, and there’s room for both if Huff is traded.
assuming the loss of Millar and Payton
who do you recommend as the 9th person in the lineup. I’m not saying Lou is great, only that he’s been playing very well in a short period of time. Right now his line is .333/.366./.462 If his numbers only declines some, he’ll have as much of a claim to the 9th spot in our lineup as anyone, at least until Wieters gets called up, then we can have Ramon Hernandez at 1st base.
Montanez should be given a shot
But the fairy dust could wear off at any time.
It’s vital to get him as many at bats this September as possible just to give him as many chances to fail as possible. Believe me, I’m rooting for him to be the real deal.
oh, I know
you’re a real Orioles fan.
And I’m more pragmatic than I act sometimes. It’s just, it’s not too hard to make the case for Montanez when the only natural alternative is re-signing Millar.
Um, hello?
Mark Teixeira is gonna lead us to the promised land!
[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
I've jumped off the sign Tex bandwagon
He’s going to cost too much money and we need pitching to contend.
Still, perhaps I should have said inexpensive natural alternative instead of natural alternative.
I don't think he'll end up here
But I’d like to see it. Or Adam Dunn.
[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
A run created is just as good as a run prevented
I’m cool with signing Tex.
We’re going to need to spend some money on free agents and under-30 offensive stars are the safest bets out there.
Is he for real, even a little?
Does anyone have any idea what’s gotten into him? He was a huge bust after being the third overall pick in 2000, but I don’t know much about him otherwise. Just looking at the stats, it looks like he’s had hot streaks before (good in AA in 2006 & 2007 but crapped out in AAA both years).
Anyone follow the minors enough to know if he’s made some adjustment that could make him (finally) a major leaguer, or is this just an enjoyable fluke?

I'm an unabashed Bill-lover
So take my opinion with a grain of salt.
But that was exactly what the Democrats needed. He’s still the best at what he does.
I managed not to
and while I still defend my Perot vote in ‘92, I don’t know what the hell I was thinking in ‘96. And dude cut the deficit his second term – that’s why I voted for Dole, iirc. And he went and did it.

Worst Democratic candidate since Mondale.
i completely disagree.

Mondale won ONE state
Dukakis had a 17 point lead and he blew it
Bentsen/Dukakis would have won
and yes, Kerry was an awful candidate, but he almost won.

Meh
Read Greg Palast’s Armed Madhouse and you’ll think a lot less of him. Allowed the election mess in New Mexico that helped give Bush the WH in 2004.
"I wasn't here for the losing years. But it feels a little like the days with Earl in charge and John Lowenstein smashing birthday cakes in the middle of the clubhouse with a bat." - John "T-Bone" Shelby
I'll check it out
maybe he did allow the mess — no one is perfect, but the mess there did not really give Bush the WH. It was more the combination of having a weak candidate who did not connect with people, the lack of a clear message and the reluctance to really go after the party the charge. And what thewaywardO said it is right on — no one has ever beaten an incumbent during wartime. Most people, no matter how much they dislike someone, do not feel comfortable changing course.
"We might as well just win this game." -Adam Jones
Do me a favor - do a LOT more reading about Bill Richardson
Unfortunately, there’s a lot to find out.
"I wasn't here for the losing years. But it feels a little like the days with Earl in charge and John Lowenstein smashing birthday cakes in the middle of the clubhouse with a bat." - John "T-Bone" Shelby
I have read a lot on him
about 6 books, either directly or indirectly related to him and I’ve come across some stuff that I don’t approve of, but he’s still a guy I like who’s heads and shoulders above most politicians
Plus come on, Greg Palast? I am quite liberal, but these ultra liberal types irk me as much as the crazy conservatives….
"We might as well just win this game." -Adam Jones
We'll have to agree to disagree
Palast may be out there, but he’s VERY well sourced.

I don't understand why anyone watches the conventions
Everything is decided beforehand. The wheeling and dealing has been done. It is no longer done at the convention. The event is entirely scripted.
I peruse the newspapers afterwards to see if anything really happened… It saves my time.
Plus, you know who you are voting for.
I enjoy the process
and I respect the system, as screwed up as it may be.
"We might as well just win this game." -Adam Jones
The conventions are a huge party for delegates
That’s why they’re still around. Denver strip clubs are raking in the cash. Same will happen in Minneapolis.

[Guthrie's] president of my heart. ~PhilR8
Ozzie Guillen at the end of last night's game:
“I think Cintron was the player of the game,” White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. “He was supposed to be in the lineup, then all of a sudden, Roberts plays and he killed us. I blame Cintron for this one. Thank you. You almost got me fired last year, now you’re going to get me fired this year.”
from MLB.COM
I am 100% in agreement with Ozzie Guillen.
Let’s continue to extract value from Cintron by not playing him.
hey all
just to let you know, we cant mathmatically lose 100 games.
