Skip Caray: 1939-2008
Thanks to the Braves being a nationally broadcast team forever, I got to hear Skip Caray plenty of times over the years. His health had been failing him for the last year, and he passed away yesterday, in his sleep, at the age of 68. He was just nine days shy of his 69th birthday.
Over his long career, he called baseball (Braves), football (University of Missouri), and basketball (St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks). He started with the Braves in 1976 and never left, working both TV and radio.
Camden Chat sends our best wishes to the family and friends of Skip Caray, and to the Atlanta Braves organization. He will no doubt be missed.

RIP
I’ve watched a ton of Braves game back in the days due living in South Carolina, the Braves being on TBS, and before the days of Extra Innings. Its a sad day. I’ll always remember the “BRAVES WIN! BRAVES WIN!” and his off game topic observations.
My favorite Skip line was last season in a game where the Braves were getting killed by the Phils. It was something like “Yates walks another. Once again,The bases are loaded and I wish I was too right now.”

Skip Caray and Don Sutton are probably my favorite baseball announcing team ever.
Don Sutton just isn’t anywhere near as good now without him.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I think Mel Allen might lose his luster if he had to work with Bob Carpenter.

He tries too hard to be a homer
I love homer announcers, but Bob Carpenter just tries too hard. Its painful.

Grew up on Skip Caray's voice
I spent my adolescence in Atlanta, and even though I left after high school, I always associate my boyhood with Caray’s voice. I used to lie in bed listening to Hawks games on the radio (he was as good a basketball announcer as he was for baseball). I haven’t heard him in years but, at the news, I felt an unaccountable loss.
Thanks for remembering old Skip, SC!
