Teixeira hears pleas of Orioles fans
Link is to an mlb.com article where it's mentioned that Teixeira considers Baltimore a possible free agent destination. No, there's not much substance here since the guy's clearly trying to say "all the right things," but I thought I'd link it here anyway. I'd be interested if you guys think there's a legit shot at the O's making a run at signing him...I know it'd go against a conventional rebuilding program but if the O's can get him for 4 or 5 years it might make sense.

Can't imagine getting him for 4-5 years
Not with recent deals like Soriano’s out there, Boras as his agent, and high-spending teams supposedly after him. That said, I still would want him even for more.

it will take
1. A ton of money
2. Seven or eight years, at least
3. An ability to convince him that we’ll surround him with the right players so that we and he can win
Here’s the thing that some people are ignoring when it comes to our rebuilding. I don’t think this is going to be a strictly “from the ground up” sort of deal. We’ll be less Oakland/Minnesota, probably, than what Detroit did. Some homegrown players mixed with the RIGHT free agents. I’m hoping we don’t go all Dumb-browski and wind up getting Gary Sheffield, but past that Dombrowski did a super job in Detroit.
Teixeira would fit that. I don’t see us getting him because he’s going to get some great offers, but it’s worth a shot.

I think we have a tendency to think "too good to be true" in regards to ACTUALLY getting teix
But if you think about it, for the most part he WILL be surrounded by the right players…
Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters and him cover almost half of the lineup… Starting pitching, on the other hand, could be a problem.

But this is the one free agent
where if BAL ponies up the cash, he WOULD sign here. We offered Vlad more money than LAA, he still signed there. We all remember Syd Thrift’s complaints that the O’s were seemingly offering “Confederate money” no one wanted. With Tex, if we offer as much as NYY and BOS, we might still get him. We wouldn’t have to overpay by 10% or 20% just to get him.

Adam Jones hit .279/.320/.405 with seven home runs this season. I understand his potential, you understand his potential, but it’s hard to sell an agent on that as a bargaining chip sort of thing when the New York Yankees are going to be in the running.

true
but throughout the league a lot of opposing managers have been complimenting the guy… I think he’s not under the radar.. even with our obvious balt bias.

oh definitely not
Everyone knows he’s a quality young player with the potential to bloom into a legitimate star. But he’s yet to really turn it up and I don’t think he can be sold as a reason to bring Teixeira in.

I think the combo
of him and Wieters, another Boras client, would certainly be a consideration. Any serious person involved with the game recognizes that a steady flow of inexpensive, good, younger players is crucial to winning for a medium market team, and we have something that resembles that, finally. I don’t see why Teixeira would be unaware of this or not take it into account.

It’s not really up to Teixeira. Outside of A-Rod overruling him with the Yankees, Boras dominates these negotiations almost completely (that’s the impression I’ve always read, anyway). Boras can go, “Yeah, well, this guy hasn’t really contributed yet. What else you got?”

Boras is asking for $230M
If that what it takes to sign, then no, I’ll pass.

what the hell?
man, don’t just pin that on boras.. teix is freaking crazy to ask for that much… is that over 10 years? I agree with you.. if that’s what they’re asking for, let the yankees pay for it. Not that I care about Peter Angelos’ spending habits, but that’s just ridiculous.

The A-Rod contracts were freaking crazy, too. The Dodgers pay Andruw Jones $18 million a year. Scott Boras gets it DONE.

Why would Teixeira want to sign with a losing team like the Orioles?
He is with a team that is a shoe in to win their division and likely to go deep in to the post season. If you are a commodity that any team would want, and you are going to get paid the same huge salary anywhere you go, it would be likely you would want to sign with a team that at least has the potential to win a championship every year.

Players choose money over playoff viability all the time
See: Miguel Tejada and the Orioles. ARod and the Rangers. Mike Hampton and the Rockies.
I was just thinking about this the other day: while huge baseball player salaries may seem interchangably ludicrous to us plebeians, the addition of a few million dollars on top of two hundred could mean the difference between buying that boat and not buying that boat. Or donating that much more to charity. Or whatever rich people do with their money.
Winning is great, and everyone wants to win, but first and foremost on everyone’s mind is “me and my family.” For some people, that’s more money. For others, that’s playing near their family or childhood home (ie Griffey).
So the fact that Texeira even answered the question the way he did means that he either a) is actually considering Baltimore, or, more likely, B) is keeping teams guessing so they’ll throw even more money at him.
If the Angels win the World Series, Texeira will probably be thankful that he’s there and will probably have a great time. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to take a few million less to stay there, or that he’ll suddenly shed any sort of nostalgia for his home.
Winning is nice. Peace of mind is nicer.

Torii Hunter is doing his best to help Mark Teixeira decide.

Looks like it is going to be an interesting off-season of free agent signings one way or another.

It might be true, and it might not, but he seems like he’d prefer to be closer to home, which is Maryland for him. I’m not saying that means I think he’ll be in Baltimore next year. New York seems likely, one team or the other.

Matt Wieters is looking good
The man looks to be the real thing, I’m starting to get on the band wagon. .360 7 HR OPS of 1.070.
When is he coming to Norfolk
